MarkPearson

Hello All,

Hope everyone is well.

I am about to launch my website / new business on line within the next few day (has been delayed a little!!)

It is for a new product to the UK and Europe - Personalised Roses

The roses can have simple messages embossed onto the petals, photographs or other images or multi coloured company logos.

Would you all please view my site and taking into account we still have a little work to do and links to add.

All feedback as welcome.

Even place a dummy order to check everything works well.

Many thanks.

Hi Jayne,

not sure where that link should go to?

It never give me any rose feature?

We do have a brief section on rose colours and meanings, tho in my opinon it is a bit old fashioned to buy roses by colour just because they mean something.

They mean something, because they say so on the petals :)

I think you will have a successful site here but there are some potential usability problems.

I would probably say prices from £9.99 and leave off the terrifying £130 odd quid tag. In actual fact £30 for a dozen printed roses seems like a reasonable deal - but when I saw the upper price bracket I nearly quit.

In selecting a thank you message

'We appreciate your business' - appreciate is spelt wrongly

During check out you offer paypal, email or nochex - is nochex a way of paying with a credit card? I have no idea and I work in the online ecommerce industry - most people will know even less. This will need a bit of work to make the most sensitive part of the transaction more trustworthy.

I think the 'add your message' banner looks too much like advertising and not enough like something the customer should pay attention to.

I think you should seriously consider getting the site tested - even if it is just having three people you know going through it in front of you. This kind of thing is invaluable and needn't cost much and will save you in the long run

Otherwise looking good and I really wish you well.

Thanks Silly Jokes,

I knew you had browsed the site when I spotted the Elvis custom message in your cart! lol

Thanks for the spell error notice.

I fully agree with you on the 'Add your message' banner/button.

I might get her to move it up and maybe make it flash! - its important.

Payment - we will be adding all 3

Worldpay, paypal and nochex.

I am just waiting on the full set up of the new business bank account for the worldpay addition.

Thanks for your comments and time :)

Mark,

Very nice site and a fresh idea.

Taking a look at your site I found it easy to use but have just one or two suggestions:

I personally change the $ sign on the Affiliate banner to £ . It just gives it a bit of a US theme for a predominent UK site (may be intentional - but I would change)

Also you have some good content in the Information drop down box along the top navigation bar that I think many would miss, i.e. Rose Colour Meanings etc... maybe you could have little tasters on the home page to promote this?

Best of luck,
Dean

Thanks for your comments Dean.

I have addressed the $ problem above, it will be changed soon :)

We are offering our products to the Uk and European markets.

The home page will have a mini selection of our best selling products and any offers.

A short paragraph of information about our business and product and a simple flash presentation.

I will think how I can make all our 'extra information' more accessable.

Thanks

Hi Mark

Loved the site nice layout :)

The one thing I always look for especially if I`m spending alot of money on a purchase online is an address for the business.

I could`nt find one but I may have missed it.

Best of Luck!

Arial

Thanks Ariel,

We will have that information and telephone numbers and maybe an instant messanger option on the contact page.

Do you think this is enough, or should I post it at the bottom of every page?

The site is looking great! You have a fantastic business and we wish you every success.

Perhaps you can include more details about the affiliate scheme which we're interested in.

Best wishes,

Hi Carol & Mark,

I just tried to look at your own site with the link you post in your signature, but it did not work.

Our affiliate program should be up and running by tomorrow evening.

We will list the details on the affiliate page, you can sign up now and I will contact you when its ready.

We will be offing all affiliates 10% commission on sales.

Thanks Mark. I think our Great Inspirations site is now back online. We've had huge problems with the host this past week and are shortly changing to a more reliable service.

We'll look forward to more details on your affiliate scheme. We have plans to launch other sites soon so we'll sign up when we are closer.

Best wishes,

Carol & Mark

Mark, I really like your business and I think you are going to have a lot of fun an make some money with it. It has been great to see you ask questions on the forum and then get on and do it.

A couple more comments on the site.

I don't much like the page that appears that says something about going to he basket. It is there for so little time there isn't enough time to see what it is about which makes it frustrating. What is the point of it?

regarding the add message - I would have thought that it ought to be a forced step during checkout. Once the flowers are in the basket then you must add a message before moving on. I know that there should be as few steps in the checkout as possible but this step has to take place sometime.

The warning about paying for embossing is really negative. It makes you sound very bossy. You have to help make sure that customers do pick embossing and if they don't you'll have to ring them up. This is crucial as it will cause a problem for you.

Consider this: If no message has been added you should have a line in the basket as you continue through checkout saying No message has been selected, click here to add message

Theres also no list of what has been added to the basket - it just says total goods. Should be 1/2 dozen red roses, (plus no message added click here to add message)

The checkout would benefit from an indication of how many steps there are to checkout along the top. This gives people a sense of how long it will take them to pay and give them hope that they are making progress. It reduces abandoned baskets.

There is of course my usual moan about colouring up visited links which NO ONE ever listens to. Sigh

A really nice site - worked well for me.

I think the problem with the home page has already been pointed out.

When you go live, its important that your first page, ie http://rosesbydesign.com/index.php, is search engine friendly because it will often be the only one dispalyed by Goggle etc, and it should contain all the key phrases you want people to use when they find your site.

Good luck - I've got a wedding anniversary at the end of the month so I might be back!

I have taken into account your comments.

CART STEPS
If you notice we have now add a cart step guide, very basic, but it gives you an idea 'where you are at'

That was a good suggestion - cheers

ADDING CONTENTS TO CART
The page that redirect you top the basket, does pop up for a very short while and just says, please wait while we are adding your contents to your cart, then it takes you to the cart.

I think this is just part of the cart software, not sure what we can do about it.

ADDING MESSAGE
This has been the most difficult part of the site, the software we are using does not allow us to add the additions easily!
I agree the 'warning' is a bit over the top. Was not my words, but the designers.

What do you think of this as a replacement?

PLEASE NOTE: If you do not choose a personalised message, your roses will be delivered plain.

I will always endeavour to contact all customers if they fail to add a message option via phone or email. But they may not be contactable, so we will at last resort send out plain roses (which are still beautiful)

May I be forgiven for pointing out that if the software won't do this then you may have chosen the wrong software for a website specialising in personalisation? Surely this is a fundemental requirement for what you are doing?

Still, once the business is a success you can revisit this.

Your replacement quote is better but at the moment there is nothing to prompt someone to add a message at now. I expect you are working on this.

Yes, I hope to make the message adding process as smooth as possible to get us started and then when we have the funds I will pay to get the process really fully workable and fool proof.

We have the 'Add your personalised message' banner on all products, and when clicked it takes customers to the message section:

http://rosesbydesign.com/products.php?cat=16

The message options are also in each of the product sections.

And two reminders during checkout.

I hope this is enough.
