Hi All,

im wondering is there anyone who has experience in buying equipment and what would you recommend for someone starting out on a budget.

regards

If your starting as a LTD then any lease agreements will likely have a personal guarantee attached to it - I would steer clear of these and maybe go for low cost second hand stuff first, and when you have some trading and confidence in figures behind you then look at lease or hire purchase.

Pubs are closing down or being refurbished all the time with equipment that will just be scrapped, if you want to be adventurous maybe contact some PubCos that are conducting refits in your local area and see if you can get a cheap deal!

In addition, if your going second hand, be prepared to properly PAT test any electrical stuff before it's used commercially.

Speaking as someone who provides finance for lots of start up restaurAnts, my advice would be

Buy the best you can on critical assets - which might be new or good quality, verified used

Cut corners where you can on non critical assets.

Get a good service contract on critical equipment.

Leasing is a great way to fund income-creating equipment (I would say that though). But don’t get carried away with the idea of ‘easy monthly installments’ - they can soon add up.
