Ah it is you again. So do all of these businesses come under your $30 business budget? I can see the inspiration for your username.

Can I ask what business you are in?

I think the OP means simple to think up, rather than simple to carry out, the sort of small businesses that people have. Or am I wrong?

What's silly about it.

The key is "relatively". Obviously you will need to teach yourself some skills in order to be able to do a lot of these. I didn't want to exclude the less simple ideas.

I do mean carry out, but not necessarily totally simple, just ideas that a lot of people with motivation and a will to learn can carry out.

Some of them, not all.

I don't have a business. I work as a financial analyst for a large corporation. I've always wanted to start my own business and have been training myself in business skills like copywriting, SEO, marketing etc and brainstorming and storing business ideas that I hope to put to use at a later date.

Of course they are - anyone can do it.

Will writing =

The cat gets the lot.
No, I'm not nuts.

Signed..................... Witness.......................

Tax returns =

This tax year I got £...........
I spent £...........
I kept £............
of which you get £............
end.

Wheres the art in that?
;)

I think the key thing about ideas is - what's different? You could start a sandwich van, but why? What are you bringing to the table that makes you stand out? Same goes with anything you have listed.

If you are going to start a business, then put 100% in and make it really special. Don't just start another version of something that already exists.

Thanks for the advice but I disagree to some extent. For example, I work in a building where about 3000 people work, with many more thousands working around the same area. There is no sandwich van in the area. If somebody were to start a sandwich van business that sold sandwiches every day to 1% of the people in this building spending an average of £3 each, that's £90 revenue just for pulling up outside one building.

That said, I have other more unique ideas that I think could make a lot more money but will take time for me to put together and perfect. My plan is to build up a portfolio of website domains, then use the profits from the simple ideas to fund the more lucrative ideas. I know that trying to start up lots of businesses at the same time would usually lead to a big failure but I have a fairly complicated plan to get people to help me make it work.

are you doing an ebook type thing where you give someone 50 great business ideas for £30?

someone pays you £30 and you email them a link to this thread (or some half baked word doc with much the same content?)

Haha. No, but you are not a million miles off the mark.

Sell car aerials and electrical goods from the back of your van... £830 million later and you got Sir Alan Sugar.

It's very easy to convince yourself that something will work based on pure theory. "If X amount of people buy X amount from me, I'll make loads of money" It never works that way.

Running a business is very hard work. Tax issues, accounting, insurance, hard graft, people management, marketing... to name a few!
So what I'm saying is, be prepared, because it won't be a case of simply turning up and people flocking to whatever service you provide.

Nothing wrong with not having your own business. Experience within a large organisation is just as valid as operating your own company. Sure there is a certain amount of respect attributed to someone who can go it alone and run the show themselves, but just because someone owns a business doesn't automatically mean they have any idea what they are doing. I'm much more impressed with you because of your current position than I would be if you told me you owned a website that sold sweets.

there are a wide range of low cost business that you can set up but you will find the return low and the competition cheap - there is always an offset between cost of entry and returns available and in the market today you must look for differentiation and also a point of difference.

ANy business that solves a problem for enough people is a good idea - as long as there is some recurring income from it. A business without recurring income is harder to build and less valuable to sell.

Yes this is what I do, and its not difficult at all :)

I just looked at your website, sounds interesting. Will look into it more and ask you some questions I expect when I have a little more time. Guessing your little kit gives you solutions to the problems that I can probably think up.

Window cleaning business = not as easy as people think. Building up a round, dealing with moany people, dealing with the poor weather. Ask my brother he has a very successful cleaning company, I'm sure he would say it's far from easy

Yep it can happen, but our losses from bad debt are a mere 3.25% p.a. and are totally claimable as a taxable expense against profits, and the profits are quite considerable :)
