So as my little video production business has been growing and I've been winning larger corporate business, I've had a few enquiries about being paid by credit card.
The reason is that large corporates take a ton of time to set our little business up on their payment systems. And as we've moved to a 50 / 50 model (50% upfront, 50% on delivery), it means that they've had problems being able to pay upfront in the time available because it can take them a month or 2 to get everything set up.
The solution that they've offered time and time again is to pay me on their corporate card while we get set up on their system. I also looked into factoring but the solution seems to be the corporate credit card which can take a short-term hit of a few grand. For example, my last customer paid £5k and was perfectly happy to put £2.5k on their card right there and then.
So I naturally called my bank which told me it would take 3 months to set up! I'm still locked in discussions with them! And when I looked at different solutions, I always came up against an issue. For example, I looked at one where they wanted to run all transactions through Paypal which is a big turnoff for me due to all the issues I've seen with Paypal. Another told me they could only provide payments in person and not over the phone. Which is a bit tricky if the person on the other end of the phone is in Lisbon.
Therefore, I wanted to reach out to the UKBF hive mind. Can anyone recommend a provider which would allow my little business to take credit card payments over the phone without going through, for example, Paypal. Which would charge me per transaction and not per month. Where I could just buy a little terminal and fire it up occasionally. Or where I could just send a customer a link and they could pay using that.
Does anyone have a solution they've used that works?
