Profile posts - wtf are they and how to reply?

I have noticed for the first time that there are things called profile posts and several people have tried to contact me via these things instead of just sending a PM.

I have no clue how to answer them or even what they are. Wouldn't it simply be better to get rid of this strange animal?

I use my profile posts to post other stupid stuff that I haven't had an opportunity to post in threads.

I've deleted several of my past profile posts, but I've kept one that seems to have worked a bit:

I often get DMs requesting help. If you're looking for FREE help with anything, post a bloody thread like everybody else!

Well, at least that made me laugh!

I am however none the wiser and my bladder tells me that this forum would be better off without them - whatever they are!

Your bladder is probably correct.

When I go to my profile page I see a small box towards the top of the page where I can type up a comment to post on that page.

I had a comment for a few months saying "I AM NOT A BUSINESS BROKER". That was a bad move. People kept finding my profile when searching for "business broker" and then sending me DMs.

One comment that did work well to get rid of people was the below.

For small businesses the "one simple marketing hack" bait works a charm. They can never resist running after that ball.

Wow, what a missed business opportunity. The quality of the posts and offers I've been hitherto unaware of is truly amazing.
