Hi Andy
PR is a very effective marketing tool to use, with many companies seeing fantastic results.
Basically, the premise is that you are getting articles, case studies, press releases etc published in either local/regional/national newspapers, trade magazines or other publications and are used as a vehicle to promote your company. It could be a new contract won, a new facility, something that benefits the community.
The beauty of this is that it gives a third party opinion (i.e. that of the Editors) that your company is wonderful. The main problem around traditional advertising is that the reader clearly knows it is you blowing your own trumpet, however with PR it is not so obvious.
