What marketing are you preparing?

How much will you be investing in marketing?

What experience do you (or people you will employ) have in designing and selling high-end bathrooms, sourcing suppliers, purchasing & administration? (I presume your current team of fitters are experienced in fitting high-end bathrooms - which is completely different to fitting budget and low-end bathrooms). Expert plumbing is required.

Do you have adequate finance in place?

You cannot just rely on passing trade to kickstart your business.

I wish you luck in your venture, but run your proposals with your accountant and someone who has experience in the business you want to start.

Your head must rule your heart.

Have you actually done any research or are you just making it up as you go along?

Can.i ask who gives you the right to be so rude ? Do you think I just plucked my idea out if thin air. I did my research for over a year before deciding on the location and I am very well connected here. Believe it or not - as a woman I have a brain, and know how to use it !!

I have a healthy marketing budget. We have a great website under construction. Will be doing leaflet drops. The.local radio station will be presenting from our showroom on opening day and we have prizes and discount on offer.

My fitting team have over 15 years experience in low mid and hugh end bathroom fitting, tiling and plumbing.

As.for finance. I have £50 k set aside to use in my first year - and I also have a very wealthy business partner who owns a chain of tile stores that will invest any more money that is needed.

I have run successful interior businesses before - and this is an exciting challenge for me. I have full faith in myself to make it work.

You have to remember this forum is mostly full of people that are either in the online/e-commerce space, selling you finance or haven't actually ran any sort of business before (and dossers with nothing to do all day, me).

If you always remember that, then you'll know where these questions come from.

Thanks billybob it's just so infuriating to get patronising responses <removed>

I have a healthy marketing budget.
What does 'healthy' mean in numeric terms?

We have a great website under construction
Until it's finished and tested, you will not now how 'great' it is.

Will be doing leaflet drops.
The first (and probably worst) form of marketing, especially for 'high-end' products.

My fitting team have over 15 years experience in low mid and hugh end bathroom fitting, tiling and plumbing.
There is a huge difference in plumbing low-end and high-end, which you obviously know. Given you are concentrating on high-end only - do you have sufficient high-end plumbers to fit 5 bathrooms (your estimation) per week? 1 Bathroom will take between 2-4 weeks to complete from start to finish.

As.for finance. I have £50 k set aside to use in my first year
Does £50k include all you set-up costs, fitting out, marketing budget, branding, website, accounts, legals, stationary, printing, staff, etc etc etc . . . . .?

I have run successful interior businesses before
What happened with them and is this a similar set up in similar circumstances?

I am sure that none of the posters intend to be rude and this may be your understanding as they don't share your views and are looking for realistic figures and comments on your side. Your opening post does not do you any favours with regards showing you have the experience required.

A very wealthy business partner may come in useful.

I honestly do wish you luck with your project, but it's important to take into account what some posters have said on this thread and take this on board . . . . . . .which is why you came to the forum in the first place.

Good luck.

It’s precisely nothing to do with being a woman - it’s curious that you chose to decide that.

Your questions suggest that you haven’t done research, since if you had done you wouldn't amending figures based on responses from people who basically just guessing on the back of limited information.

Your research should give you insight to matters such as:

The demographic and spending habits of your local area

Local Competition and how they differentiate themselves

Average spend on a bathroom etc, etc..

The answers to those questions (in detail) will provide far stronger planning material than random responses from forum members.

If you’ve done it, great. If not, then I strongly suggest you do.

Look into becoming fca registered, top end bathroom shops offer finance and its a healthy chunk of profit for you. I know when I looked into buying bathroom showroom the finance gave a healthy monthly income for very little additional work. It was basically paying his rent every month. Good luck people are trying to help, not sure what relevance being a woman is, in fact woman I think sell better than men and with your background and support im sure you will make it a success fingers crossed

Also have a back up, get tile friend to have amazing tile display and I know you have 50k but im guessing 20 top end bathrooms by time you do stud work lighting etc this will be gone. Its a big burn rate with advertising to start but 1k a month should get you on local radio regularly.

I used to work at the local radio station so I'll get mates rates at a fraction of that . I will look into finance thanks for that.

When we had an extension built. our builder fitted the parts we bought. He had his own plumber, tiler and joiners. The bathroom shop just sold us the bits, so you don't necessarily need fitters for all your sales. Similarly there'll be some people doing DIY fitting.

What does your other half do at the moment? Does he sell everything that he fits, or is he fitting bits that the customer has sourced? If it's the latter, then you've a good opportunity to work together.

Most important advice though .... CHECK THE LEASE ON THE UNIT. GET A LAWYER, IDENTIFY THE BREAK CLAUSES.

Thank you - my brother is a solicitor he has checked the lease for me. It's a 3 year lease with a break clause every year if I need - I have to give 3 months notice.
