I have some good contacts in a certain new EU country (that seems under-invested in by UK businesses), and was thinking of setting up a B2B site or kind of like an investment site, where traders from the UK can pick and choose products to import and invest in and develop links with businesses over here. I appreciate this idea has been done before, but I was wondering where the business would actually make money from this. Would people pay per lead, or would there be some type of fee on top of orders placed? Or does money solely come from companies listing on the site. I see that there are business directories for the EU like maxtrader, but these seem to give out the addresses of the companies that are selling products - there would be nothing to stop the business going direct to the manufacturer. I think we could either charge people to list on the site and take money from advertising, but my preferred option would be to take a more hands on approach, using my contacts to manage the business or orders between the two companies which would obviously overcome the language barrier and be perhaps more useful to the importing UK company. Any ideas on whether this is a goer, and how do these business directories normally make their money? Feel free to tear the idea to shreds if you like!
