Hi,

Can anyone recommend any postcode software? This would ideally be able to intergrate into a website via development. The site and data must be stable.

There is a lot of options, just wondered if anyone had any recommendations. :)

Check out these guys http://www.arcenciel.co.uk/ I have done loads with them in the past, developed windows and web applications some very complex some simple this covers it all. Best to email for a quote with your specifications and they will recommend the correct solution.

what about if you got a list of postcodes from searching google then use a Msql database to manage them..

Hi,

Yeah had a look www.epostcode.co.uk seem to the best value! Didn't reliase it was so expensive and we were charged per lookup...

Any other cheaper options? We need a webservice of some form.

Once you see how much Royal Mail charges for the original file and then the update files you will understand why they are so expensive :)

But they are more expensive than epostcodes.co.uk. 8,000 lookups must cost you a small fortune with them!

Is there a postcode database which you can intregrate into your website.. reasonable costs....

oops
actually looking for a database of postcodes
So when someone /company searches postcodes on my site
it will come back with results

heres an example
someone posts their details say with an outward postcode
i.e
Such SW1
Then a company say is searching by postcode
and types in SW1
it comes up with all the people matching SW1 who have posted their outward postcode (example SW1)on the site

Don't quote me on this, but you might get away with a simple database set up if you're not actually using full postcodes with lat / long coords.

this could probably be done fairly easily with MySQL and PHP if you had a list of the outward postcodes.

Thats actually what I need...trying to get a database of outward postcodes...Any ideas...anyone

What you'll want to do is have the registration page with a dropdown or radio button on the outward postcode section (or write a simple script to extract the outward part when inserting to database).

When working with addresses and postcodes it's important your data is clean and all in the same format.

In the worst case scenario you could probably just do queries on the registered addresses without the need for the outward list, but this would probably bring cleansing issues so I'd go with the above solution.

I worked in-house on a massive ecommerce project and our main reason for choosing it was to keep customer data clean. We ran huge offline mail campaigns so it was vital that we weren't sending out thousands of packs to wrong (simple error) addresses.

I'd say it did steamline the customer journey a fair amount. Personally I always like to see it integrated, however you should always offer an alternative / allow for notes to be posted on the checkout screen. For every few hundred orders we'd get a few postcodes not found, frustrated customers whose data was wrong on the lookup database, stuff like that.

I've been on sites before thatforced you to choose their listed data. If that's wrong, then you're potentially losing a sale / customer.

I agree in my block i am flat 3/1, 3/2 up to 3/8 are there, but not mine, i need to choose 3/2 and amend to 3/1 every time.

I think it would make it quicker for customer, as long as they can amend it.
