damn just had an account limitied! they was right to to be fair but there was a good reason behind it.

Any way had the account for ages was always in very good order. (was in hospital)

they then restricted it and are saying I have to wait 180 days for the money.

Thing is its not a couple of hundred quid were talking about here.

Anything I can do?

Regards
Adam

Nope, don't think there is, my partner went through this one, 180 day rolling reserve (if that's the same thing as yours) no matter what he said they didn't budge an inch. 180 days of account inactivity to close the account and remove the funds - thieving bunch.

I had over £600 in my paypal account when they limited it... it did indeed take 180 days but they paid me as they said they would. I think it is an awful way to treat customers by suddenly enforcing this upon them, however I guess if you are scammed when buying something you would be truly greatful of the precautions...

I took PayPal to court for freezing my account for 180 days. They backed down. Although; more and more people are doing the same now, they are using stalling tactics to slow the court process down.

Submit the information they require asap and find out the reason for the hold. The small claims court is the only thing we have to prevent the 180 day holds. The Financial Ombudsman offer no help and simply state that you agreed to have your money held against your will when you signed up.

Well that is the help, they are pointing out the obvious...

It is to do with money laundering, however if you are able to show that your are whom you say you are then it is reasonable to demand release of your funds immediately. Give them notice that should they fail to do so, you will pursue them via legal action without further notification for the sum plus interest at 8% and loss of earnings / borrowing costs to replace this cashflow.

When I sent a few large payments abroad my accounts were limited. They were OK when I called up and said what the payments were for and sent them the ID they asked for.

It's actually nothing to do with money laundering. There is no european law which requires them to freeze your account. They simply choose to.

There are dozens of reasons why PayPal choose to freeze your account; anything from having more money coming into your account leading up to Christmas or if eBay users abuse the dispute process to gain refunds.

When you sign up to use eBay/ PayPal you expect to treated in a fair manner and you certainly don't expect questionable terms in the User Agreement to be used against you in a way which destroys your livelihood.

Unfortunately demanding to have your money released and threatening legal action does not work, so pursuing PayPal through the courts is the only option to us.

Doesn`t help you I know but I have been saying to people for years to never ever leave any large cash amounts in these online payment systems. Some of you may know Epassporte (used by many online gaming and adult providers) and they recently had there ATM cards rejected by Visa resulting in 100`s of thousands of dollars that can`t be accessed by the account members who had cash stored there.

Not saying this would ever happen to Paypal but always best to keep small amounts stored in any e-systems.

I had once about a thousand pounds frozen in my paypal account for about 2 weeks.. and I was counting on this money to pay the rent. As you can imagine I was not very happy with paypal at that point. PayPal is great until you get any problems with them, if you do, it is a complete nightmare.

It's the principal of holding money against your will and the fact that I had done nothing wrong which angered me. I found this site and later helped maintain the forum to help others:

http://ebay-and-paypal-help-advice-...l-account-limitations-td3114539.html#a3114539

The advice on the site should not be taken as legal advice but is based on experience. As I mentioned before PayPal would try to prolong the process as much as possible.

Taking them to the Small Claims Court is entirely your decision but have a good long read at all the cases so that you know what to expect.

PayPal have offices in the UK (address above) so this allows us to file papers.

After 1-2 weeks of pre-legal threats, court processes it took about 45- 60 days from memory - they defend the claim which allows them to drag out the case by 30 days.

On the site you will find pre-legal letters.
PayPal's defense.
In depth information about filing out the questionaire for the court.
Some background into cases.

Hope this helps.
