Has anyone had difficulty finding a suitable payment processor/gateway for their ecommerce business?

With each ecommerce business, the objective is ensuring the online checkout experience is as simple as possible, whilst still maintaining secure payment transactions.
However depending on the merchants industry (High risk/Low risk), they may get declined by acquiring banks and therefore setting up a merchant account, payment processor and gateway has proven difficult.

Just wanted to start the topic of conversation to see if I could offer anyone in this situation any advice as it's one of the many elements of setting up an online business.
By speaking to someone within the industry it can be incredibly beneficial, saving time and money. Too many times I have seen business start ups who have failed to get off the ground as they can't locate a suitable payment set up!

Hi haven’t personally but I don’t run any websites that are considered high risk.

My usual course of action is to just sign up with Stripe as it’s incredibly easy to do so and you can be trading within minutes and it’ll be suitable for the vast majority of businesses.

I appreciate that I may achieve lower rates elsewhere and may look towards an alternative provider as my turnover increases.

It's worth pointing out that @Demi F represents a payment processing business

Thank you for giving me an insight to your experience.
So Stripe is your go to, due to easy and rapid set up. Did you have to provide any supporting documents like proof of ownership/bank statements etc in order to get set up with them?

Totally understand, if at that point you need advice on different payment gateways feel free to message me! as @fisicx has pointed out I do represent a payment processing business but I'm here to help the mass in the right direction not for my benefit!
