Part time work to help cash flow - Any ideas?

Hi,

I am planning on officially launching my business in the summer. At the moment i'm working in HR to reduce my debts built up from my student days.

However when I do launch I plan to work full time on the business. I know that for a while after launch I won't be able to take any money out of the business. Therefore I am planning on working part time during the early days and months to allow me a bit of spending money for nights out, general expenses etc...

I'm just unsure of what kind of jobs I should be looking at during the early days. For example, I could work early mornings (6 - 9) cleaning offices. However I am sure there are better opportunities to work part time (early mornings or late afternoon) from home. I'm 22, completed my business degree last summer and have over 2 years experience in HR and admin.

Any ideas guys? Or does anyone on here employ people to work from home?

It may be a good idea like you have just done to post to business forums offering some admin duties to businesses at a competitive rate whilst your building your business.

Don't be fooled into any of the get rich quick schemes look for genuine work from home opportunities.

Become a Virtual Assistant providing part time admin services to business is one option, if thats what you're good at.

Ebay is another option, driving work, cleaning, delivery, ironing....just some options.

I did some evening delivery work when i started which really helped.

Sounds harsh, but if you're serious about making the business work you'll have to forget nights out and spending money! You'll always spend more than you plan when starting a business, and you'll need every penny to live off!

Yes I could do admin duties and I think I could do them at competitive rates however the marketing and getting customers seems that it could take a while. I'll look into it further.

I wont be fooled by the too good to be true get rich schemes. I am looking for genuine opportunities which may include admin duties, HR issues, telemarketing etc...

If you have any call centres near you they tend to take on part time staff but that is normally in the evenings or late night. If you are involved in an imbound campaign you will only recieve your basic but if you can get onto a sales campaign there is scope for you to improve your earnings with commission. Not only that if you work evenings it might limit the time you have to go out and help you save some cash.

I had a friend who delivered pizzas for a well known pizza chain, and apparently the money wasn't too bad.

You get an hourly pay, and also a "delivery payment" for each delivery. If you manage to do 4 or 5 deliveries in one go, it works out quite nice.

The other "trick" he used to do was only carry a couple of notes on him: so if the person he was giving the pizza to only had a note, and no change, they would often say "oh that's ok, keep the change"!

Nice way of getting tips lol!

You could do a job which is an extension to your business which will help gain experience and contacts. I noticed your selling clothing so you should do something in that area, which helps more than cleaning and admin. I'm sure you can come up with creative ideas.

 

Simple answer, although you wont like it!

Find a local auction near to you.
Download online catalogue
Find product categories avaialable in auction that are selling well on ebay
Note the price that they items fetch on ebay.
Go to auction ( without cash to avoid the temptation)
Listen to buying prices.
Find category on which you can get a consistent 100% markup
Go back to auction, buy a few, sell on ebay, test
( And before anyone is sceptical I did this and wrote an ebook about it to prove anyone can do it)
Scale up to produce the necessary income.


Meanwhile
Invest in www.worldwidebrands.com for sourcing product wholesale.
Find a category in which there is decent traffic of sales.
Order and sell on ebay
Then
Use that list of customers to sell high value back end items.
Then
Every time you get to 400 feedback open a new ebay a/c
Dont become a powerseller! - you become a target

And that is a strategy that has produced businesses >$100000 per month in less than 6 months.

If that isnt enough income, suggest scaling down expenditure, rather than trying to up income!

But really, it isnt rocket science! - the subtleties are simply in market research, and understanding ( not necessarily complying with) ebay rules regards follow on selling, where to source product ( I just told you!)
and the biggest skill I would urge everyone to learn is copywriting.

Many ebay listings are so bad, that there are people earning a living from buying relisting and selling

Considering how easy it is , I fail to understand why any bright kids are still working as students in mcdonalds!

One point I missed - the cheap wholesale items, eg small items of jewellry - sell AT OR CLOSE TO COST, as a loss leader for the big items sold to your customer list. Understand the lifetime value of customers

My daughter applied to our local Customs and Excise office for a part time job and got a job as an admin case worker. Her contract was for 6 months and has been extended and she works 5.00pm to 10.00pm. I also must point out in relation to her friends ( she is 17) she earns a fortune for the hours she works. I dont know if Customs and Excise are recruiting in your area but it is worth a phonecall or a letter to find out.

but! your post is intruiging, maybe a few more people think so...or dont..

would be good to have a read, even out of curiosity but also that i to have debts id love to pay off. Getting their slowly but very opened minded to what else can be done hardwork wise

There are two references in this thread to what I mean:

The concept is funnel marketing.

It is offering a small good value item for free or for little to get hold of a customers information.

Then as they get to know you and trust you you can sell them ever more valuable items. With jewellery for example the sale of a ring allows you a captive audience to sell the matching necklace and earrings.

With information the sale (gift) of an ebook, allows you to sell a DVD course, from that a seminar , then one to one mentoring and so on. Moving from £10's to £100's to £1000's as your customer gets to trust you.

But with respect MrJ - I am not going to save you a few tens of piounds, by spending hours typing the info here. Read the ebook I sent you .

Try it. Out of the easy hundreds you can make next week, use £40 of that to by a professional ebay direct marketing course: preferably mine, but it doesnt have to be! ( and I dont mean the rubbish you see in book shops! - which tell you how to use turbolister, they dont tell you about marketing)

When you are convinced and making money on that buy a direct marketing course proper! Learn while you earn.

I agree with Fisrow that it would be a good idea to get a job in a related field, perhaps the ones that you think are your weak areas so you can learn from then and improve your chance with your business.
