Hello,
I have paid a few guys' petrol receipts for cars used both private and for business. We have not kept a log, and now it's time for the P11Ds.

Is it legal to estimate a percentage of business mileage, or is there a set way of dealing with this?

There is a straightforward way to deal with it. You have provided fuel for private use therefore the full scale charge applies.

Apportioning is not an option.

He doesn't actually say that it is a company car. The answer would be different if they are their own cars and he is just paying the petrol. In that case, he would have met a pecuniary liability and would have to include the total amount paid on the P11d and they would need to make an expenses claim on their personal returns
