We are two miles from our nearest fibre cabinet and there seems to be no prospect of the promised FTTP upgrade any time soon.
The last 500 metres of copper is a five pair SWA underground cable which also feeds two other properties. For the last 10 years we have been able to get 2 x ISDN voice lines and slow (but just about acceptable) broadband for the computers.
With the forthcoming abandonment of ISDN by Openreach we decided to use a 4g router for the data and install SIP for the voice lines and this has worked adequately for the last 12 months or so however a fault developed on the SIP supply in May and our last call in was on 14th May.
Openreach have been out and mended faults on a number of occasions but not adequately to enable the SIP.
Our service provider has also been out to meet with Openreach on some occasions but Openreach then failed to turn up.
Last Thursday I emailed Clive Selley and did actually get an acknowledgment from one of his minions and after 30 or so back and forth emails between them and our service provider and between them they have decided that a cease and re-new is the only viable route, this normally takes two weeks but under “business critical” terms they have committed to have a working solution by 23:59 on Monday - we shall see !
