Online Video Clip storage

Hi

I have a question about online file hosting. Searching the web I've stumbled accross this forum. It looks very useful.

Anyway, I work for a Market Research firm and we are looking to host video clips on behalf of a client. I'm esitmating that there could be anything between 100-200 GB worth of video to be hosted.

Does anyone know of any online service that can offer this much space? Our client will need to be able to access/download the video clips when required whilst we will need to be able to upload them.

thanks for any suggestions

Richie

You would need to look at dedicated servers for that.

Also, bandwidth may be more of an issue than storage, it is usually more expensive. You need to try and work out what your monthly transfer rates will be, i.e. how many videos are to be up and down loaded.

You will need to make sure the host has good connection speeds for this kind of work.

The only company I could recomend would be

http://www.bytemark.co.uk

They can provide machines, or you can supply your own if required. They will then network it, and, for an additional fee manage it for you.

I would suggest contacting them directly with your requirements and see what they recommend.

Hi thanks for the replies

The video clips need to be streamed - they are approximately 20-30 mins long in mpg format and around 1GB each if that helps at all.

You're right subbynet - it does seem a very large file size for a clip that long, however I'm not sure if we are able to encode them to a smaller size.

thanks

Hi Richie,

If you re-encode them to .wmv format you'll greatly reduce the space needed.

We manage streaming media for Museum of London, Liverpool Hope Uni, Federation of Master Builders and Hibernian FC to name a few. If you give me an idea of how many total views you expect per month I'll be able to provide you with a cost to manage it all.

If you want to do it all yourself and need a few pointers (for free ofcourse) then get in touch via www.keyone.co.uk

We provide a dedicated server for a digital TV channel that has a very similar situation. They currently store around 250GB of uncompressed video which is streamed through their website.

If you want pricing information on this then please PM me and I will send through a questionaire.

We can then give you precise costings, timescale etc..

Kind Regards

Michael
