Hi folks

We finally got our @BlythValley twitter account live and active (some people may already be following us)

As many of you are aware we're a business insurance broker who specialises in business insurance for micro SMEs so feel free to follow us.

We'll be updating @BlythValley whenever we find useful/interesting/mind blowing stuff (not neccessarily insurance related stuff, as we know that it makes most people yawn ;) )...as well as keeping you up to date with the Blyth Valley family news.

I'm keen to get your ideas or advice on best practice or info you'd like us to tweet about...?

Much love

Vicky

I think a good balance of personal tweets..interests, plans, etc will have people following you. These are often the most interesting.

The only thing I can suggest is don't over tweet. It really bothers me when you go into your home page to find one or two companies have overposted, so they are all you see.

We have just started using this service ourselves, so haven't really got into it properly yet.

All the best with it.

Hi Vicky,

I'm on Twitter and have started following you.

You have a good mix of industry related tweets, non-industry but interesting updates and dialogue with other people.

thank you everyone for your advice - really helpful. We're trying to use twitter as an added value tool to our customers and followers.

I always ask myself - will our followers actually either be interested or benefit from what we're tweeting before I tweet.
We're building our brand after all and don't want to come across as boring, dull or spammers.

Any more suggestions always welcome,

and also welcome to our new twitter followers! :)

This is SO true! I think Facebook is for sharing pearls of wisdom about making cups of tea and enjoying a DVD but I try to use Twitter for being a bit more businesslike and for stuff that would interest our Tweet mates & followers (on CrackingProds)

I'm going to have to get rid of a Tweeting musician mate (if you can?) cos he's always posting inane things - he works at night you see...! Hope he doesn't find out:( I don't think he will as I just read that, profoundly, he's 'off to the dentist' :D

Welcome to the world of Twitter.

It's useful to have a balance of tweets - don't just tweet about 'your stuff'. Share information, pass on useful tweets (Re-tweeting), include links, respond to other people's posts, recommend people, products and services, include personal stuff but don't overdo it. It's about relationship building and should be two-way. No one wants a one-way stream of sales pitches.

You can use utilities like tweetlater and twitterfeed to automatically post from your blog (if you have one).

I've made a couple of posts on my blog about using Twitter and my recommendations on who to follow to help you get the most out of your tweets.

Is Twitter a worth while adventure to get new business or would you say that Twitter is more useful to keeping your exciting clients in the loop?

Hi Vicky.
Twitter is indeed great. Yes as a marketing tool and all that but also as vast source of information. My favourite twits :) post links to interesting articles and useful information as well as the odd personal comment.
Get Tweetdeck. The Twitter website is the most basic form of Twitter. Tweetdeck lets you do so much more. View multiple streams, search for keywords, retweet, etc.
Enjoy and beware it can consume so much time.

my posts vary greatly on my personal @seanprice including my frustrations with national rail, what im up to during the day and then the odd interesting link and helpful information on web design etc.

Then my business @iboxsecurity where i usual post service information, special offers, what we are up to etc. Expect to see this account really open up and be much more active in the next 2 / 3 weeks.
