Again the government forget that Cumbria is part of England. They forget there is about 150 miles of England north of their "northern" powerhouse. Sometimes they mention Newcastle, but when they do I get the impression the government thinks the Irish Sea laps the western coastline of Tyne & Wear.

I wish the government would look at a map a realise how much of England exists north of Manchester, Leeds and Sheffield (Sheffield?!? that's almost in the middle). They need to call it something else.

Rant over :) Carry on.

Quite frankly for us here in the north we would probably be better served by Nicola Sturgeon and her cronies.

This, for me, is correct. This also has a bearing on the EU debate, because given a choice of trusting Brussels or London, London doesnt not score massively well.

Given the choice of London or Edinburgh, I am also not convinced that London gets a big haul of points.

Obviously, these comments come from a massively northern perspective, but that is a refreshing change. If the Northern perspective seems incomprehensible to our friends in London then you will have gained an insite into how most commentary feels from here, in the north.

It is actually the "M62 Powerhouse" with a potential spur for Sheffield. Sorry this is not what you want to hear scribe101, but it would be as misleading to think that Cumbria is part of Northern Powerhouse as it would be to think that Dorset is a part of Greater London.

That's my point. It has northern in the name, but has very little to do with the true north.

The name is wrong and I like your suggestion better.

I agree that it actually looks more like a "M62 Powerhouse", with Leeds and Manchester benefiting the most.

I'm not sure how seriously to be honest, but I've often thought the same. I wonder how many others do?

The validity of the stated benefits of Scottish independence aside, and also that all of my clients are further south than me with the majority in London, I've always felt closer to Scotland than the south of England.

For me, Cumbria would need to get a great deal more investment from the government to change that.
