Agreed.
If they were members of one of the alarm forums they would have been talking about this for a long time too. But hey, what do I know?
Maybe they will pop by when they aren't too busy selling and installing alarm systems

I feel sorry for all the businesses running adwords campaigns in my area for security alarm installation. They must've have heard people don't google security.
I'm with Ian & Matt on this. People Google everything. To suggest security is an exception doesn't make any sense.
But feel free to prove me wrong by providing some evidence.
Steve
PS I know a locksmith that does very well out of his SEO rankings. Surely that's a related business?
domestic security? what like for houses - show me a link that proves that people dont google for that! I'd be truly amazed if this was the case...
People do not buy security from the internet, they buy face to face.
I`m the security guy, your the internet expert - you prove it works!

How do they arrange these face to face meetings?

It seems you're frantically back-peddling. What you said was "people don`t google security".
Did you forget what you claimed? Or have you just realised you can't defend it and are now pretending you never said it?

not at all, I did think this site might have grown up while I was away, that was wasted time.
Why is the security business any different to any other business re. the above?
Not understanding ANYTHING about web site set up, links SEO and any other IT language, if you are getting 10 to 15 hits a day, with no calls then the website content is wrong!Hi All, I have set-up a website for a friend who runs a security alarm business. After around 6 weeks he is getting on average around 10-15 uniques per day.
I have checked google analytics and webmaster tools and we are getting SERP traffic for the keywords we are targeting.
I have put his phone number and physical address in the header; he has also dedicated a specific phone number so he can track leads. yet we still have not had a single phone call/lead, can anyolne provide any advice on what i might be doing wrong? How come none of these visitors are phoning for a quote?
All advice greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!!

Saxondale is right, no one buys security off the internet, they certainly get a phone number to ring one but they dont buy.....and thats my experience too being in the same industry, everyone Ive given aquote too have either been word of mouth or got our phone number off the website, thats all our website does. so lets move away from the adwords angle
Agreed.
People will buy a product, but rarely a solution.
And yes, i too am in the industry. (although Bri and Sax knough that)
Thanks for responding. In terms of online advertising, we have done article marketing, submitting to social bookmarking sites, craiglists ads and also forum marketing (via signature link). We have had over 300 uniques in 6 weeks (not a lot I know, but a start) and are ranked #13 in google for one of our target keywords.
With regards the comment that we need 100-150 hits per day, that may be true for typical info product sales, where conversions are around 1%; this website is a blog, and there is no copy as such to sell anything. we are trying to build trust so that people looking for a house alarm system will contact us.
I hope that clarifes and once again I appreciate you taking the time to respond and offer advice.
Like people have been saying, your visitor count is far to low.
You are not the only person in this boat, I created an online store for someone just the other month and he is only getting around 10 - 15 visitors a day, he was also expecting leads however I told him that the number of visitors to the website needs to increase dramatically before any conclusion can be had.
I also had the same problem on a personal website I created ages ago, the site was free to sign up but hardly anyone did at the beginning because the visitor count was so low.
Not true. Based on 10 - 15 hits a day thats about 400 odd hits a month so over the month if you have a compelling and well designed site, you should still be converting regardless whether you get the 400 visits over a month or over a day. Even at a poor enough conversion rate of about 1% then you should still be receiving 4 leads over the month.
