    Hi James

As you'll know coming from a marketing background, the name you develop for your company will form an important part of your brand and will need to reflect who you are, resonate with the customers you want to target and help you differeniate yourself from your competitors.

Luckily rather than having to use an external agency, you will be able to undertake your own work to develop your brand and brand values into a design brief and positioning statement, that can then be used by your designer to help develop options for your corporate identity and suggested names.

A name for your company shouldnt be considered in isolation but as a key part of your overall brand.

For a professional image avoid anything risqué or based on a pun. Your telemarketers will soon get fed up saying a cringeworthy or cliché-ridden name (such as Blue Sky Marketing), for one thing.

All words evoke an image in listeners' minds; Shark Marketing and Spark Marketing evoke completely different images, although they differ by only one letter. Think of the image you want to portray and look up related words in a thesaurus.

You'll find points to set you thinking on my site, Winning Names, http://www.winningnames.co.uk, plus a downloadable ebook which lists the strategies used by professional naming companies.

I know. but I am asking for some of your views on a good name

No, you're asking people to do your work for you. You've not said "here's the name I'm thinking of, do you think it works", or "what should I consider when choosing a name".

    But while we're at it....

A marketing company without a basic grasp of punctuation and grammar! :D

(Capital 'B' in "but". "what" should be "that" in your OP.)
