Photoshop isn't great. It saves as png/ jpeg type images, which means when you enlarge the image it will pixelate.

You need to use vector format. Vectors can be enlarged or shrunk without the loss of quality as they use mathematical formulas to work out which colour the pixel should be.

InkScape is a good tool. It's freeware so no cost. It's fairly easy to pickup and creates vectors.

80 designs would come from designers doing rework on your corrections. I think I had about 8-12 designers submitting different drafts and you only award the winner.

The problem with logo's nowadays is everyone just google images an idea and takes something off the first few pages! I have had so many people come in who are just starting out with other peoples logo's.

If a job is worth doing as they say! I'd appoint a designer to come up with something, if you give them a general idea I can't see it taking more than a couple of hours.

If you need any help with it just PM me, I'm sure we can sort something out :)

Well that's an hard trade to brand, I know I would for ten years for Thomas Padmore & Son :-)

You know what I would do ? The Name inserted into a rack of cues.

I did a great brand for one of my first ventures. I called it Under-wood Snooker Tables - I made and sold dining tables that turned into snooker tables :-)

When I had my current logo done, it was done by a friend who is a graphic designer for a trophy and sportswear company. I though that would do, then as I said in the OP a supplier sent me an invoice and it came with the same snooker/pool player image so had a google and found it. To say I wasn't pleased was an understatement.

Free competition?

You still doing the tables websitehandyman?

No, it's a long time ago, I still have one I kept for myself. It went on a tour of the UK, plenty of interest but not enough orders followed so gave up when the bank turned me down a £1500 loan for a spray booth. Got great memories of the industry, I put up the table for Pot Black :-)

Friend of mine went on Fiverr and found someone to do a few designs (make sure they have a good number of recommendations) - obviously it's cheap, although I guess a bit hit and miss. Mind you, it's possible to go to a design agency and get something hit and miss!

Exactly, anybody using Photoshop for typographical or image designs needs to be shot.

Adobe Illustrator is a vector based software and it is the way to go.

So many people make the mistake of getting branding/logo design done on the cheap, but that's such a massive mistake to make. Invest in the brand; find a good designer, preferably with branding experience, and cough up the money - it will be pay for itself in no time. £5 for a logo? Try £500 and you'll see the difference. On the other hand, if you can't afford this then fair enough...just throwing in my two cents.

I need a new logo for my company after I found one of my suppliers are using the same snooker/pool figure on theirs.

Has anyone got any ideas?

One of the best ways to get a logo is to run a contest on digital point forums, set a prize of say 30 dollars, give the spec and wait for the submissions, give feedback and you will get more designs. Its a great way to get different ideas without paying out big money.
