Job worth less than £200 - customer asking for bank statement and certificate of incorporation
in order to be setup on their payment system.

Bit much eh?

Sounds like delusions of grandeur, or delusions of efficiency. Are you asking for payment in advance?

This is not an unusual request for larger organisations.

It won't take more than 5 minutes to print, censor sensitive information, scan and send.

I agree - or a couple of minutes to scan, and block out private info in a simple image editor.

Unfortunately many companies still have over-complicated payment systems, and you just have to go with what they need.

Asking for an incorporation certificate shows a lack of knowledge.

They are meaningless and only contain publicly available information.

This sounds somewhat dodgy - I am not sure why they need this? All that is required is Company Number, and VAT Number if you are VAT registered, Company Registered Address and Contact Information. These sorts of identity information are for opening Buisness accounts by you not for a customer of yours.

Is it a large organization making this request?

If so, give them the information you feel is adequate to put their mind at rest.

If not, keep your information private and just supply your bank details, if that's the way they are making the payment.

Ok this organisation seems to be some EU-sponsored company / agency...hence the paperwork...the tentacles of Brussels reach far..

To kick for touch - I asked them for some of THEIR trade references and in all fairness they did email me back them very quickly with them.

So I will probably just bite my tongue and roll with it.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

just black out all non-essential info and send it over for the sake of a sale. i've had to do this a few times, esp when dealing with councils or gov authorities. some of them want your life story in writing.
