Hi guys,

I'm based in the UK and currently work full-time. However, I'm really keen to start a side business that I can operate in the afternoon/evening after my primary job finishes (I work 07:30 - 16:30).

I'm looking for advice as to the types of business that may suit this work pattern. So far, I'm interested in the prospects of dropshipping and E-commerce but am open to other ideas.

How would you guys go about starting? And is e-commerce a viable option or are there other alternatives. I'm very open to any ideas and my main goal is to be able to generate an extra £500 per month in income.

Thank you!

Dog walking is actually a really good idea as many people will struggle with finding the time to walk their dogs, and it's a good healthy thing to do.

That said, it isn't really for someone else to tell you what to do. If they knew what to do as a quick and easy bit of extra cash in the evening they'd be doing it themselves. It will be your side hustle that you will be doing so it needs to be something you decide for yourself, then if you have any specific questions about that then other business owners will be able to help you overcome challenges and avoid the mistakes they may have made.

Working in a bar. Cleaner. Gardener.

eCommerce could work but you could easily spend £500/month on marketing.

There is a huge shortage of people who are prepared to do things. For example, we need three buildings to be painted. The roof fixing on one of them needs to happen. Then there are six gates that have to be built and 200m of fencing to be put up. Then the hallway, stairwell and the entire landing upstairs in my house have to be plastered and painted.

With the lack of boots-on-the-ground and still about 4m on furlough, it looks as if it is up to poor old Muggins here to get all those things done before the rainy season.

Sounds like you need a smaller house or a more efficient Butler, Byre? ;)

Five fence posts so far - all by hand. Podgering a hole and banging in a post into clay is bloody hard work. I had to put a bit of gaffa-tape around my podger to mark off 50cm. At least I've got all the tools - a post digger, a 15kg post-banger-in and a really big podger.

Focus on what you're good at, have passion on, and what you can be paid for.
If you start with e-commerce, try to sell something you are interested in as it's not an easy game. My advice is not to start with something not because of the money but because of that initiative make you happy and satisfied at the end of the day.

I've seen that dog walking has been mentioned a couple of times and I'd like to reiterate this idea. If you intend to start something small on the side that has the potential to grow without being too time-consuming (like dropshipping would be as you suggested), a pet-based business is a great place to start.

Down the line, you can start to sell products related to your service. If you are walking dogs for example, you can offer pet owners grooming products or treats that you know are of good quality. They'll begin to trust your opinion if your services are good, so your advice and the things you sell will have value to them.

If you are looking for side business ideas, I would like to suggest you two business ideas which are easy and you can do it with your full time job.

    1. Start an eCommerce application
You can start it on a lower level then increase it with and according to your revenue. App development is not costly these days.
    2. Blogging
It is also easy business to start. You can write blogs on your own blogging site or can hire a writer at low cost. After you get a good a amount of traffic you can apply for google ads and earn money easily.
I hope my answer will help you...

Have you considered private tutoring? I have a couple of clients, one a full time teacher the other a full time nurse, who give private lessons via Zoom. The nurse literally fell into this when word got round that she'd coached her own children through the 11+ exams. Other mothers approached her and it snowballed from there.

    In all seriousness,

Get signed up on Uber Eats, Just Eat, Deliveroo and Zego for top up car insurance to cover the food delivery part (your usual car insurance won't cover it).

And away you go. You can work as long or as little as you like.

You say you want an extra £500 a month.
    I was doing a £1000 a week turnover but working all hours and 7am-11pm Saturday's and Sunday's.
Since I hit my target of becoming debt free at the end of 2020, I've spent a bit more time to myself this year. I've been doing about £500 a week instead.
The likes of Waitrose, Morrisons, Co Op are on these apps too so it's not all fast food Mcdonalds, KFC, Burger King.

There are lots of business ideas.Every business required full time and dedication. This is the place where your valued clients are reliability and depend to your company for service and solutions. I think if you want to do to anything besides of your profession ,it should be freelancing perfect for you.If you have any skill you can do it when you want and earn extra and if you
don't want to do your extra activities, you don't.
It all depends on your own will.
