Hi there,

I am starting a new on-line web site selling my partners art. It is going to be lots of different styles to suit every ones needs as well as some art specific to the County of Suffolk where I live.
Im after a good name, short, easy to remember and stylish. It does not really need to be any thing to do with art ... for example there is a Gallery near me Called EYE STORM which I like.
Any one have any good ideas??

Hi there,

It does not really need to be any thing to do with art ...

Sorry but I think it does. Domains particularly for small businesses with no presence in crowded markets have to say what they do. Pick your location, the type of art, the target buyer the price or whatever. For example 'the affordable art fair' from which I buy pictures from time to time. Of course depends what one means by affordable he he. I have posted something on this same subject on this forum only yesterday so check it out. Why make things difficult for yourself by using a name which means something hugely relevant and charming to you but f..k all to anyone else. Will help increase your hits too! Chris Kaday

Chris, totally agree with you, the name can be abstract when you're on the high street and everyone can stare into your shop window, but online is an entirely different ballgame.

The name needs to conjuer up what it is you are doing, it can be quirky, but realistically a quirky trade name is going to need more effort when it comes to pushing it up the search engines. Far better to combine your quirky name with something directly related, and then you can uses the quirky part all you like when it comes to the branding side of things, logo, graphics etc.

Ok that makes sense... The only reason I thought it didn't need to have art in it was there are loads of web site out there that have random names like Amazon etc etc, but I suppose they would have had lots of money to plough into the busines to get there name out there in the first place.

Ok, so needs to have art or a word to do with art in it and be quirky...
HHmmmmm

You say that it's art for everyone? So there's not one controlling style or artist. In which case why not go for something simple and direct Complete Art - completeart.co.uk is available on Easily , I've just checked

It doesn't need to be complex, and at any rate you can always rebrand in the future if you find yourself going down a particular route.

Do you already have an online shop design in progress awaiting the name? If not I'd highly recommend building & hosting your shop with internetretailer.biz, my sites with them and I'm happily sitting on page 1 of google and have been for 16 months (I've been trading for 18 months) despite the jewellery business being highly competitive.
The owner of ir is a member of this forum...usually lurking under the username quikshop somewhere.

Picture This & Picture Perfect are long gone....
I Heart Art suffers with the same issue Dawg mentioned you have to think of it as one word when it comes to the domain name
iheartart - I hear tart ...

Not if you do I-Heart-Art.co.uk or something??

You don't have to have the exact same domain as your business name ie he could be called Picture This but have picturethissussex or picture-this-sussex.co.uk for a domain name?? :)

Sometimes the posts in here have me gasping for breath! When will you folks realise that business and marketing is about attracting and pleasing potential customers and not yourselves. OK sorry to be harsh .. A bit long? Can you imagine anyone other than you as a Latin scholar even being able to type this let alone understand it or remember it Business is actually incredibly simple, it is only the people who run them who make it complicated. Sorry Dave - said with the very best of intentions - Love to all - Chris

We hosted a shop for an gallery up near Derby many moons ago which was called Laboratorium Of Art... a bit too long really to market easily but we did like the latin approach :)

Regards,
Dave
