Naked domain in Wordpress I cannot change

Hi guys and girls

I have a client who has recently changed host from an old time web designer, the web designer was paid to transfer the website over rather than me doing it, and for some reason the website now lives at the naked domain rather than www

This has cocked up my Google Analytics etc etc so I've logged in to WP but under 'settings' I can't change it; the area is greyed out.

Under the source code it looks as if there are settings in Yoast however I can't see it for the life of me.

Hi Nina

basically the server has the CHMOD settings to low which means the script (WP) isn't allowed to edit fields within the admin. If you go to appearances > editor there should be a warning about this below the editor box.

It's simple to fix, login to the hosting and edit the chmod of wp-config.php to 644, how you do this depends on the hosting.

I have never done this and do not wish to start messing around, I have opened a ticket with the host. First day back of January 5th and my inbox is scarey, I don't have time to learn at this point!

I was hoping for a fix in a way that I have used before - thank you for the prompt reponse as always

The host should be able to sort it in seconds, it's a really easy fix, sometimes it's easier to let someone else handle the things we don't want to do

.... or don't have time to learn! I'd love to be confident to know what to do so I can do it again in the future - today is not a good day to diversify my skill set

Who uses www anymore? Can't remember the last time I typed this into anything. If the hosting has been set up
properly it shouldn't matter if it's www or not.

Update - "edit the chmod of wp-config.php to 644"

This was already in place it transpires, the host is assisting with this, what has happened is that the old webmaster was the Superadmin and this profile has now been deleted at the request of the client as he didn't want him "Messing around with my site any more"

Which unfortunately has left the site with 3 users, none of which are SuperAdmin

I was thinking of rolling back the site to a date before this delete took place - would this restore the deleted profile?

Otherwise, how do you assign Superadmin to a user?

In the database you can change a users role, 1 being lowest level and 10 being super admin, it would be done in the wp_users table

You will need someone who knows databases and WP database structure to do this.

Do it using phpmyadmin

However, superadmin is only needed for multisite installations. If you don't have multisite you don't need superadmin.

In the time it took to post the update the host came back and it's now resolved!
