Mums Mission!

Mums Mission has been set up to raise money for SANDS (stillbirth and neonatal death society).

I am really excited to be getting involved in this mission and will be (GULP) appearing on the calendar that is to be produced for 2011 as well as Christmas Cards etc.

Am I the only one to find the picture on the home page unsettling?

I find it quite upsetting having had two healthy children, but I think I would be even more upset if I had lost a child seeing a child's picture used like this.

Christine you are not the first person to mention this from the forum. The picture is not of a child, although I can see how the picture could be viewed. I have brought it up with the site owners but have had no response so far.

I have two children myself and I certainly would not be getting involved with anything that I thought was portraying the wrong image.

Emma - sorry but I can't understand how you cannot see it's a completely inappropriate image to use - you say it's not of a child but the image shows 'someone' wearing children's underwear and carrying a teddybear.

I am really suprised that SANDS were happy to have their brand associated with such an image.

As others have said - its a good cause, but I wouldn't support any initiative that felt it was appropriate to use an image like that as part of its publicity.

I've been really interested to read this thread as I've signed up to appear in the calendar but hadn't noticed the image before. I'm sure Amanda will take the comments on board and deal with the issue appropriately.

I totally agree. This is a charity that I strongly support however that image gives the wrong impression. How does it reflect your business? The image is clearly of a child in underwear. I cannot believe that SANDS would want to be associated with such an image. I would be interested in the calendars as I run a parenting website but not while that image is displayed.

Unfortunately a week after Christine raised this issue, the disturbing image is stilll on the site.

I am also suprised that its been claimed not to be an image of a child as a justification.

Emma/Amanda if it's not possible for whoever designed the site to remove the image, wouldn't it better to host the fundraising activity by creating an alternative site.

Emma, you need to get that image changed before you start promoting the site. It really is distasteful.

To all,

Firstly this is not my site and I do not have any relationship or control over the site, I registered with them via a friend.

Secondly I spoke with Amanda on Monday and was assured that the image was being changed midweek along with some other updates - I do not know what the situation is with regards to updates if they have control or if a developer is in control of the site.

Thirdly I am not trying to "justify" the image used in anyway - as a mum of two myself I did not even look at the image - let alone in the way suggested until it was commented on by another member - the power of suggestion is a powerful thing.

The only action I myself have been able to take is to remove the link from my signature until such time the image is changed - then I will replace it.

I suggest that those that have commented contact Amanda via the mumsmission website to voice their concerns as well, I will be dropping a link to Amanda to this thread so she may see the controversy the image has caused.

I am sorry that you have taken the image in a way I am sure it was NOT intended but respect your views and opinions and have taken steps to try and rectify the situation. Please understand though that I have no control whatsoever over the website and anything used in that site.

Apologies for the long delay in response but I have been on holiday and not had time to access UKBF - only to deal with my clients.
