Mono Laser Printer Recommendations

Hi People,

I hope this is the most appropriate thread.

Background

We are an Internet retail business and are looking for another laser printer. We would then use our existing printer as a contingency backup.

We already have a Canon i-sensys LBP6650dn laser printer which we use to print our invoices on integrated labels. To be honest I am quite happy with it at about 33 ppm. We use it with the high capacity toner which gives about 6000 pages. The toner costs around £100 so gives about 2p per sheet/label which seems fine to me.

Our printing requirements however are gradually increasing (currently about 3000-4000 sheets per month. This is expected to increase to 6000-9000 sheets per month over the next 12 months.

Ideally I am looking for another mono laser with roughly the same running costs (or less) if possible. We would take a drop in PPM if required but a larger feed tray. We print integrated labels in batches of between 100-200 sheets. Ideally therefore we want a printer that has large feed and output trays.

Budget £200 - £500.

I have heard that HP are good. I have bad experience of Samsung (I think Dell printers are made by Samsung also).

Any recommendations appreciated.

There are a few options available to you which depend on specific requirements. Brother tend to be quite competitive in the Mono Laser Printer market and we have provided solutions to people who have been happy with their product for similar volumes.

Alternatively, there is the option of a Maintained Print Service which would provide all Consumables, Spare Parts, Maintenance and Servicing all included in a 'cost per print' contract, therefore you only pay for the number of prints you do each month/quarter. All parts are automatically ordered for you. Engineers are flagged automatically if a fault occurs.

Personally I would thinking ringing canon and asking for their opinion would be a good idea.

Personaly I like Brother, but a chat with the guys at Printerland would probably be worth it as I have found them to be very helpful with good prices.

Does anybody have any specific models? We will of course continue to do our own research. If this uncovers anything I will post here for opinions.

We don't do the volume you do but our Brother HL-5240L has been a fantastic, absolutely superb workhorse over the last 2 years.

We use non-Brother 'Office Essentials' toner - 7000 pages @ circa £38 exc. VAT.
If I have my decimal point in the right place I make that 0.54p per print for toner.

I think for availability of non-manufacturer cartridges out in the marketplace Brother printers are difficult to beat.

Might be worth a look.

Yes Brother does seem to be getting quite a few mentions. The printer you link to on Amazon probably doesn't have the feed capacity we are looking for but we will certainly delve deeper with Brother.

Hi all,

Thank you for the input.

We have just purchased the Brother HL 6050D. Has great reviews and seems to be a great workhorse. Got it for about £260 ex VAT.

Doesn't have networking but that isn't an issue for us as will be using USB. 500 sheet feed and very cheap running costs with compatible toner ticks all the boxes for us.
