Michael Jackson tickets - when to sell?

I have some MJ tickets, just basic seating nothing special.

Originally I wanted to see the show, the tickets were only £70 each. Not bad to see a legend but now they are shifting for around £300 each... Also there are very real doubts that the man will actually crack 50+ dates, they may end up worthless (or only worth face value at best) so I'm considering selling.

The question is do popular gig tickets normally peak in value after the initial public sales have sold out or do they continue to climb in value upto the concert date?

Tickets are for September.

:|

Where did you get your tickets from? As TicketMaster only send your tickets out 10 Days before the date your concert is. I know because I also have MJ Tickets. Decent Floor Ones :D

Why don't you want to go?

How are you thinking about selling them?

His tour is supposed to be lasting for THREE YEARS around the Globe. If he can't crack the 50 here...jeepers.

I think its still legal to ticket tout for entertainment tickets, but there is a lot of pressure on the industry to clean up their act to reduce the amount of it that goes on. Its outlawed for football tickets I believe, and only a possible matter of time before pressure mounts to a point where the gov caves in and legislates against it across the board (although the seem unwilling to at the moment).

Hmm so you're one of "them"...

:D - Nope!

I did genuinly want to go! I was very excited when we managed to get the tickets.

We got them through O2 blue room, will get them in the next few weeks I think. Although not having the tickets is not a barrier to re sale.

I'm asking because I would still go to the concert as I woud have paid £300 myself in the first place. However if they start shifting for £600 closer to the date I honestly wouldn't have paid that much so they should go to someone who would have done in the first place.

But I need to plan soon as the girlfriend wants a final decision, if I say we are going she will immediatly book an expensive hotel, if I say we are not she will immediatley ask how much we can sell the tickets for.

If I say nothing she will claim I am disorganised.

Hmm

Im not sure they will really go up more.

Its all usually dependant on what seats/tickets you have as to the price and usually the prices dont really go up and down as much on a time rather than the tickets that are on sale and/or people can get!

Why take the risk? Just sell them and be done with it. You will still make a healthy profit or are you going to be blinded by greed and wait too long?

Sure they *might* double in price but equally the *might* only be worth £70. Now is a good time to sell.

OR go and see the show. For £70 plus hotel it is cheap and you can feel smug some people have paid more for their tickets than yiou have.

Either way it is win, win for you unless of course you decide to be greedy and wait....

Congrats! You're the first person to answer the OP! ;)

I'm assuming that more people wanted tickets than tickets exist. But maybe I'm wrong?

Can anyone think of any similar last chance gigs from the past? I'm not really 'into' live music, although I accept that this is quite special and I am lucky to have got tickets in the first place....

Swap you for an ear or a third of an arm?:)

Some additional arms would be useful but I will not sell the tickets in any way, shape or form on here!

I would be accused of being a spammer and I believe they all need to be rounded up and burnt :)

Harsh but true.

However I will accept £1000 per ticket and change my views immediatley.

Typically they do go up after they sell out simply because demand goes up once the official sources run out.

Undoubtedly there will be a peak in their resell value but as with any market predicting exactly when this will be is more complex than a lay person outside of the market can realistically predict

Of cause the reality is that you should sell your tickets at 50% face value to me and be happy that i have taken the dilemma of when to sell off you

Why would anyone want to re-inflate the pockets of a paedo? or even profit from a paedo's performance?

How is it reinflating? it is profiteering from one at worst.... he gets a percentage of ticket sales at best not the resell of them.

I'm sure you know what your trying to say:|

I'll try:
How is it reinflating?

By buying tickets to see a broke paedo who will profit from it's perforance.

it is profiteering from one at worst.... he gets a percentage of ticket sales at best not the resell of them.

Sorry i can't understand this:|

I think the tickets shot up when the presales "soldout" MJ Fansite/o2
people thinking the presales were the total amount of tickets avail *ever*

then they kept going when "first batch" soldout to General public for the first few shows.

ive noticed them not rising as fast now there are about 50 dates at O2 ..

you usually get (especially for this) Touts usually buy and have several laptops/computers ticket pages open and buy on various credit cards (ive heard up to 40 at times! x 4-8 tickets per order).

Nearer the events you will find tickets for the "crap" seats just making the face value (back/cant see etc) as the touts have already cashed in and sold the best seats so an all round profit.

Add this to the "genuine" people selling.

I'd say if they are fair or great seats sell and get out now before the place is full of people trying to get rid as they always are for ANY gigs.

to buy a ticket or two, go to the concert. Youve already obligated yourselves to going. Regardless of the hype or what the man has been accused of, dont forget your history, many men have been accused of worse and still had a following and had the accolades to go with it.

The man is a born entertainer, I've seen him twice, and thats what your paying for, to be entertained, I dont hold with his preferences or his ideals.

I guess its a black thing, i'm allowed to say that cos I am, but I dunno, give the guy a break before breaking his neck. He's in business to make money and this is what he does best and all he knows how.

You know you could be succesfully sued for that, unless you can argue to the court that its not slander because its obvious the court made the wrong decision when he was found not guilty of being a 'paedo'...

But never mind, won't happen! And in my 'opinion' it seems likely some innapropriate things did happen. However the guy is still a genius + legend + good on stage and despite whatever severley misguided events in his past (by an equally misguided individual) he seems to be a nice if weird guy.

Is he still a black guy though? Colour wise he isn't, and the word 'black' in that context can only be suggestive of skin colour. Being 'black' doesnt pin you to any one country or faith, it's 100% descriptive of the colour of a persons skin and their probable ethnic roots. So I guess if someone doesnt want to be black and ends up white they are white.

How is this a black thing anyway?

Stick them on officialboxoffice.co.uk it's the official reseller site for concert promoters and was launched a month or so back. set your price and if they don't sell they don't sell nothing lost.

If you bought them with the intention of going, then go. If you can no longer make it, for one reason or another, then sell them at face value to a genuine fan on one of the MJ forums.

Ok, there may be an opportunity to make a few £, but is that not known as profiteering off the genuine fans?

FWIW, I'm not sure if he'll complete all of the gigs anyway so if you are in two minds, I'd get shot now.

Just my humble opinion of course, but you should be going to see a real musician like Mr Weller. (I'm off to see him on Sat and I'm starting to get a tad excited:))

We also purchased tickets for MJ January next year,

And all the same thoughts went through my mind i.e - will he make January, is he still able to perform, has he still got that fire in his belly etc!

My Father offered this advice -

He was bought a ticket to see Elvis perform on his comeback tour in the early 70's, but due to babies, new house and my mum (his ex-wife) hehe pressuring him not to go, he sold his ticket.. biggest mistake he has ever made and has regreted it ever since!

Another chance came up to see Frank Sinatra at the Docklands many years later and he jumped at the opportunity, not because he was much of a fan, but because he new that like Elvis, Sinatra had that something! Something that only one in a million has?

So my wife and I will be attend the concert, just to experience a performer that at one time was up there with the greats, whether he has it now is another question, but one I'm willing to spend 175 pound finding out!

Cheers

Dan

P.S - My dad has just return from Graceland and feels like the pain has lifted somewhat! And don't think for one minute that I'm comparing MJ with The King of rocking roll! Elvis was the best ever.

Couldn't agree more. Just because he was a good dancer and singer (a long time ago) it makes it okay to forgive certain activities the he has carried out.

I begt you can't wait for Glitter to go on tour - perhaps after this they can do one together.

Perhaps this is a new thread, but how come people who are rich and famous can be fogiven by the masses for such activity?

When Michael puts some more money in the bank he can go back to chasing children at his Paedo Palace 'Neverland' (or should that be never-land as in 'never? he was fiddling with kids there?') - he'll be able to afford to pay them off now.

Has he ever been found guilty of the numerous offences he's been accused of?

Yep, links provided.

One is from the independent, which isn't renowned for it sensationalistic views.

In all honesty, I think many of the posts here show just how blinkered people are prepared to be if someone is famous.

In my opinion, if he wasn't famous and had had the same evidence shown that was provided in the most recent case brought against him, he would be serving time in a US prison.

The settlements out of court proove that he is innocent.

Why would a victims parents just 'settle' for money and not get money via the courts and see justice?

I think in all honesty, thanks to this being pretty much 50/50 how on earth is anybody ever going to 'really' know?

Looks like it.

Whatever!

As it happens I shoed Miss Girlfriend this thread.

She said simply 'we are still going'. So I guess we are keeping the tickets!

But thanks for all input.

NB MJ HAS NOT been found guilty, ever. It does seem highly likely some innapropriate 'play time' occured but the guys got the mind of a young child himself. On that level its less evil, more unfortunate all round and like eveything he does - weird.

But what do you do? force him to undergo mental therapy of some sort? lock him up? He has entertained and aided millions upon millions of people. Based on karma alone he deserves a break from his past now. Besides no one will ever know for sure...

There's no whatever about it. Even the title of the thread is an insult to music fans.

Don't tout.

How is this touting? I bought the tickets becasue I wanted to see the show!

If however they end up selling for £500 say, and there is a die hard fan who would be desperately happy to pay that much, and £500 means more to me than seeing the concert...

What is the right thing to do? People do have different values they place on things you know - if I want to sell, someone wants to buy, should we both be unhappy out of principal and stay as we are?

Not eveything is so simplistic as your one line accusation that I am somehow insulting music fans!?

Do you know what touting is?

It's resale at more than the face value.

I'm quite aware it's the UKBF and this happens every day in business, but it's a fairly frowned upon activity in the events sector, no matter what romantic story you tag onto it.

Well I'm still not touting them am I!

I have not offered them for sale, nor do I intent to.

I did consider it and whether it would be more worthwhile in the future - but decided no too.

I really couldn't care less about the touting debate in general. As far as I can see it doesnt matter if its a couple of tickets or a house you want to sell, doesn't even matter why a person wants to sell something.

Everything is worth what another person will pay for it, and in a free country if you own it, you may sell it!

I can understand why fans are occasionally frustrated when they hear a tout managed to buy 40 odd tickets. But if they were as serious as the touts about getting the tickets they would make the same effort. I.e. bulk buy via many aliases and redistribute tickets at pre agreed prices via fan networks.

That will never happen becasue the touts, like most business-people, try harder than the majority that stand round whinging ;)
