Hey everyone

Can you recommend a good and reasonable merchant account. I've been doing a bit of research into them and they are all a bit shy with their information.

I am thinking of using protx or sage pay as it is now, that seems to be the most reasonable online payment system.

So what do you think?

Yep

SagePay (they charge £20/month) they've had fairly good reviews.
Nochex good for debit/credit card processing online.
eWAY can accept credit card payments.

You could also look into Moneybookers, PPPay and Googlecheckout.

You still need a merchant account to run along side these I believe, and sage pay will charge additional for this service. I have the actual payment system sorted its just the merchant account to go with it I need.

Maybe have a look at Elavon, they offered better rates than RBS when I was signing up.

I use them with Sagepay and whilst you have to jump through a few hoops to get the merchant account approved the technical side of getting it all working has been easy.

I have used sage pay
however you want to make sure you get the security settings set up correctly as their defaults are too low and are a risk to fraudulent cards. Apart from that they are pretty good, support and all.
