Hi,

Some of the other kind members on here are thinking of starting a young peoples forum, for you to learn and talk about business. This forum will be for you, so they will need to know what sort of things you like and things you don't like :lol:

Many of the older members will be their for advice and help if needed, but other than that, it will be a no oldies allowed place, to throw ideas about and learn from each other:lol:

So ideas on here please, if you don't say, you don't get

And where's Junior? This very concept was 'created' over postings from junior in relation to his original site and idea. Offers were made in favour of him and it was found his parents had no idea of what was going on.

Now we have been inundated by junior's silence (unless he has been solely PM'ing Jayne or Jonathon.)

Let's get real! By all means have a thread as an informative topic, but I believe we must fall short of making the sort of offers that were most generously made on Dec 26 and 27th.

I posted this, hoping our younger members who be interested enough to post their ideas. I do hope they haven't been waisting mine and many other members time. I've given up good holiday time to speak to these young ones, especially Junior.

So in plain terms, either started helping with this or please don't ask for my help again. I don't mind helping anyone, but you have to help yourselves too.

Lol well what ages are you after? Business based or just somewhere to moan? Teenagers make up the largest percentage of internet users so I suppose an internet section is a must.

And then you'd need a way of pubicising it. Not all teenagers are as nice as me :lol:! The rest of them are up the park with their hoodies up mugging old people!

You'd need to make 'whatevertheforum'sname'sgoingtobe' the place to be. Teenagers are complicated things!

I think the forum will be for 13 - 18 year old, there may even be two forums, so tell us what you would like on the forums

Well I'd rather not get involved. It'll end up taking over my school life and then what'm I left with? Nothing! I'm on here to soak up all the experience that you lot've picked up over the years and would much prefer not to get too involved with anything.

Though Junior's not even done his SATs yet, he really should start putting his studies before signing contracts and stuff. After all, we're still in our childhood, we should enjoy it before it's gone for good! I think Junior may have gotten scared by all these contracts and ran off. Then again, he might be on holiday, who knows!

I think Liams right, he should concentrate on his studies and get involved where he can.

It was obvious to me from day 1 that Junior was ony interested in making a fast buck. When he realised he wouldn't get it here, he's gone off somewhere else to find it.

He was never really interested in any of the things we offered. He made is quite clear when he refused to involve his parents.

I hate to say I told you so, but Junior is a time waster. I feel for you Jayne I really do.

But (and I say "if", because it has only been a few days) if he has just wasted your time, he's no worse than many business owners I've dealt with. I've had people take at least 10 hours of my time, out right lie and tell me they want to go ahead, only for me to find out they went with another company.

It's the world of business/real life.

I'm not saying it's right, but you put an investment into opportunities knowing they can fail.

Many of us assisted with advice and suggestions. Now, when things are 'coming together' you don't want to be involved. Can you blame some of us for feeling there's a heap of wasted effort there?

Much as I've supported you on all this Liam he is actually quite right. You've both been offered a great opportunity and if Junior doesn't want in, why not grab it with both hands and make a try of it.

And how long did it take you to root that post up? Tut, fine, so hate me for it! That was before you lot had stamped my young spark. I've grown up alot since then; become much more realistic. But at the end of the day, I'm a teenager, no one likes teenagers, I wouldn't expect you to.

It's nothing to do with age, Liam. You can't use it as a factor that people choose to discriminate against you, as I've never seen it on these forums. People try to help you, and it seems in this case that Nigel, Jayne and others feel you've led them on and made them invest time into something you had no interest in. Age is irrelevant

Whether Junior is in the right or wrong, the forum is still a good idea to help all young people who want it. It will not interfear with school work, because if it did, why join this forum!

It's only a forum for the younger ones and it wasn't Liam who kept sending PM's to me all Christmas or asked for any help.

It's ideas for what to put on the forum we want, that's all. Not if there should or shouldn't be one.

Just in case you think I'm ganging up on Liam, I am not, I have said all along that these kids should be learning from us and concentrating on their studies.

My issue is with Junior for wasting everybodies time.

But if the offer is still there Liam should have a crack at starting a young persons forum as well as visiting us from time to time.

Only just noticed this thread. I can see where you all are coming from and be objective as much as possible I think you all are making 'some' good points but I also think we are being a little unfair at such an early stage.

I admire any young ones who joins an adult forum showing motivation and confidence to succeed in life and that inspires me to help them in any way I can, either through expertise, experience or time and effort.

I do think we are being quite unfair to Junior here. We do not have the full facts surrounding his current circumstances after we (or I rather) have put it to him that his parents need to be involved. I had discussions by email with Junior in length about the idea and he was very keen and wanted me to start work on it. I on purpose decided to 're-open' the discussion on the forum about the idea following my emails to Junior because I wanted forum members to be aware that I had insisted on his parents involvement in the event the idea somewhat backfired and pointed to me.

Of all intents and purposes, Junior had, I believe, the best of intentions and I do not feel he has wasted MY time in view of the discussions I have had with him in length both on/off forum. I hold myself responsible as an adult and an experienced businessman that I decided to 'sponsor' the forum out of my own initiative. Any risks associated with that is my own and I take responsibility for it. Under no circumstances do I hold Junior or anyone accountable because Junior or any other teenager has done nothing wrong by coming onto this forum feeling inspired by us as role-models. We have to use our own self-judgment whether any venture is risky and counteract accordingly. I had incurred a small expense as a result but I chose to take that risk and I knew the risks because I am an adult/experienced businessman. I have no regrets whatsoever because there is nothing to stop me or anyone here to pursue the idea.

Junior being motivated and inspired by us as role-models would probably have given him the confidence to confront his parents, who may well have deflated the idea and demotivated Junior and may be grounded from the forum, or the Internet entirely. I can understand where he is coming from because I had unsupportive parents who believed I would not succeed in business. Now twice as rich and successful I have proved them wrong.

Finally, I ask that we all do not jump to conclusions and use our own self-judgment. Macmyday made a very good point that in the real commercial world, more time is wasted and nothing ventured is nothing gained.

I welcome more young ones to come on board to be inspired by experienced business people who are more than willing to share their time and experience. I think we all respectfully ask that teenagers do not come on the forum with a 'get rich quick attitude'.

I understand and acknowledge your (Jonathan's) position entirely.

It may well be a 'loose' conclusion that 'junior' has elected to withdraw his interest. He may be on holiday, but based on previous vigorous activity, we (I) surely expected that it would not stop 'cold turkey.'

You are also correct in adopting 'Mac's' viewpoint that there are always incidences of time wasting in the commercial world. I could not count the amount of time of 'wasted' on quoting. The difference here though is that we are responding to a request for assistance and not a request for business. We accept that a percentage of 'business' will be performed gratis or with no commercial outcome. When we offer our time and service to assist an inspired employee or intending partner and find the offer is later totally ignored, that is the point at which we (I) become somewhat agitated.

I acknowledge I posted above with underlying venom, but I believe if 'junior's' morals shared the same enthusiasm as his earlier interest he would have posted an apology or something to the effect of a kind withdrawal. Of course this is again 'pre-judging' but a judgement made on the surface facts.

My negative tone my be off-putting, but remember that I, too, offered token assistance to 'junior's' quest. I stand by that, but feel that I would like evidence of a greater comittment by the recipient WHEN i make a similar offer in the future.

There is merit and scope in providing tools for youth to realise ambitions (albeit early) but they must illustrate at least equal comittment as their mentors.

My point exactly, albeit not directly, we do not know if Junior is 'ignoring' us since he remains under parental control.

I wonder Nigel, since you are a father, I am not. How would you react if your son was Junior and came to you with a business idea with support from someone on a forum? Just wondered...

Hi all,
To respond to Jonathan's hypothetical scenario, I would be a 'touch' reserved and obviously be wondering what's it about, and how my son got to such a stage. I'm sure I, and any parent, would have had an inkling of our son's, or daughter's inclination towards business interests, so it would not have been a complete suprise. I understand, though, that many things do occur behind closed doors and behind a facade of anominity.

I would have expected, and I do believe, that my son woulod have printed out the relevant thread and shown me. My atittude to my son would have been complimentary and I would have joined the thread with my interest and thanks. It stands that person communications would have followed. I don't think my son would have cause of embarassment or fear from his parents as alluded to by one of the members here.

Hope this offers a bit of a 'parental' insight, duly acknowledging we're all different.

I think we've all been a bit quick to assume that Junior's used these forums to promote himself and has now skulked off. Perhaps he's on holiday or visiting family?
