The e-commerce experts tell us that today is 'Mega Monday', the day in the year when online retailers see a huge uplift in orders as the Christmas rush begins.

Is the day something that small businesses experience or is it something only for the likes of Amazon and Play.com? Let me know how Mega Monday plays out for you.

I'm actually finding it very busy (sales on Amazon and website) even though my product isn't really a christmas gift type present (though more so than guttering :)).

I understood Dec 4th and 5th are predicted to be the busiest online xmas shopping days.

I've got all my christmas purchases identified in a list, but will not be buying them until after pay-day.

Pretty busy here. In terms of dispatches after the weekend we have just had the busiest day of the year in terms of the number of orders dispatched. We were up 35% on the number of orders dispatched last Monday. Sales throughout the day are good, but we only have a limited selection of Christmas Gifts this year.

Sales are up 50% on Amazon UK compared to last Monday and about 150% normal business volume. If last year's trend is repeated we expect to be even busier from next week.

I thought yesterday was Cyber Monday and next Monday is Mega Monday. Just a moot point. We knew it was complete tosh however when it was reported in the press that the previous Monday (21st November) would be the busiest. It was said that people would shop earlier to avoid the delivery delays last year caused by the severe weather. Way too early and in our opinion / experience it always peaks around the first Monday of December (Mega Monday).

Difficult to draw any overall comparisons with last year however as we are selling a wider range of products.

Steve :)

I work in the mornings at my local sorting office doing the specials and tracked and today was just crazy!
The number of parcels coming in from amazon, M&S and play (in that order, with amazon way in the lead) is an eye opener!

Agree that predictions of cyber monday being in November were completely wrong, however maybe it was an attempt by Amazon's PR people to get people to order earlier and not on the actual cyber Monday which I've usually seen as the first Monday in December.

We've been very busy last two weeks but we do a lot of stuff people want before Christmas like Nativity costumes and decorations which people generally want a few weeks before the big day.

Our busiest weekend was the 21st so a week earlier than last year.
The strikes on Weds also seemed to cause a spike in sales.
I also think this Cyber Monday thing is just an excuse for some of the 'authority's' on ecommerce to make themselves look good as its actually spread out across Sunday/Monday/Tuesday. Their latest bs is 'rebound Thursday' (returns) so no doubt they have some spin Doctor in the agency thinking these things up in between his skinny lattes ;)

I agree it's all rubbish, as I said much earlier on this thread we started getting busy on Amazon that same weekend, 21st and it's been consistent since. This weekend has been a little busier still, which I expected because a lot of people will have been paid on Wednesday. I don't think Monday will much busier than any other day this coming week - I think it will be steadily busy, tailing off after next weekend as people get nervous about the prospect of receiving what they order online in time.
