Magento: Community Edition (Free)

Hi,

Just having a look at ecommerce solutions for a business. A lot of talk of Magento on here at the moment.

Just comparing the two different editions. One thing that concerns me about the community edition is it says "Gift Certificates/Cards (Physical and Virtual)" not included.

Does this mean that I had a Magento ecommerce shop I would not have the facility to offer discount/voucher codes as there wouldn't be that option in the checkout?

Thanks,

D

Definitely can use voucher codes, and these can even be worth a fixed £ reduction on your order so the difference between that and whatever they mean by gift certificates doesn't sound that great...

It's really easy too, for example, here is one I've just made for our store (gives 10% off): UKBF-2009

its hype

the community edition is absolutely fine, secure, powerful and amazingly featured.

the enterprise edition is for PLC level businesses for whom $10k per year is not a big deal. the money is really going towards having a warranty directly from Varien

for the rest of us, use the community edition - its awesome and free :D

Ok, for the experts, ill ask again, where in the demo store admin panel do I enter a voucher code then?

Also if anyone wants to show me a live community edition Magento store I'd much appreciate it, obviously doesn't have to be one of your clients.

MAgento is good but the problem is that it is hard to add products easy it takes like 5 mins to add 1 product and if you are adding loads i would sugest using cubecart haha

As with any decent shopping cart, Magento included, you'd be daft to individually add each product instead you would import the products, catagories and attibutes from a CSV file.

I'd also like to see a live Magento store, one that is fast.

I have been having a look at Magento and have read a number of posts on here but every example I have seen so far is slow, particular at adding products to the shopping cart.

Anyone got any good examples?

Thanks. They seem pretty good. Nice websites.

Do you know if Magento can deal with multiple currencies, GBP, EUR and USD? Not by an exchange rate but by separate pricing and transacted in actual currencies.

And could 3 separate sites share one admin? Big ask I know.

I can't take credit for the websites, we just host them :)

Magento will indeed deal with Multiple currency in the way you have suggested and using the multistore manager they could share one administration login, yes. It can also have multiple languages should you need.

Nice hosting. ;)

Thanks a lot. I'll have a look at this.

We do a 30 day no fuss money back guarantee and Magento is obviously free (we have a 1 click install for it with all hosting packages), so if you wanted to give it a whirl and see if it fits your needs then let me know and we can set you up so you can try before you buy! :)

I've actually just PM'd you before I seen this. Talk to you there. Thanks again.
