now quite a bit of the job spec worries me: i dont know if i should let it, if a lot is jargon that i will learn should i be successful or what.

- Strive towards delivering a total creative led sell sales process..?
- Work to a 66 list system...?
- minimum average sales calls of 15 per week of which5 are new business.
- to adhere to the U-FIRST system for geting results.

crikey!!

haha

66 list system simply means that you have 66 companies that are your clients, your potentials and your want to be potentials. This to me says that you won't be given areas. Each exec will regularly update their "66" list and you'll all have copies of each others.

15 sales calls - So it should be 5 new, 5 second appts and then the other 5 should be courtesy (existing clients) and then you should also be aiming for some cold calls also.

Haven't the foggiest as to what the U-FIRST system is!

With regards to the creative led sell, well thats quite self explanatory. One thing i will say is your personality has to be fantastic for this role - you also don't have to be afraid of making a prat of yourself. You see at your first appt you take a brief then second call you come back with a script and you have to sell that ad to them. So you have to perform, you have to read that script so that they can imagine it on the air waves.

Another thing to consider also is if you do get the job and you get to pick a company car don't go for something really flash or expensive as you'll pay for it through your tax code. I'm only saying this as i naively didn't even consider anything like this and even though i only had a Peugeot and then a Corsa i was shocked!

So trying to think outside the box here and perhaps do a radio ad accompanying a power point pres?

I really wouldn't do a radio ad, the only reason being is that you will probably do this really badly and it could backfire on you.

Hi guys,

Like i said, here is a copy of the presentation question i need to answer, the person spec and some things from the job spec that confuse me.

Presentation: 10 minutes on the topic "I possess the skills that will make me a great account executive for *FM"

person spec: knowledge of sales techniques, excellent communication and presentation skills, good business acumen, work to targets, innovative approach to business solutions, resiliet and determined.

now quite a bit of the job spec worries me: i dont know if i should let it, if a lot is jargon that i will learn should i be successful or what.

If I were you I'd concentrate in the bit I've bolded above!

U-FIRST will just be one of the hundreds of different selling systems. Most companies have one that they think is amazing. They're all the same really and most are based on AIDA:

Attention
Interest
Desire
Action

Although your advice is correct, don't know a single Sales rep who would take it!

This sort of job will probably come with an astra or focus. You might not get a choice.

Yes you are probably right :p and in fairness you'll probably just get the car that was from the last sales exec (and the one before that, and the one before that, and the one before that :D).

One other thing with regards to the car.......i hope you don't suffer from road rage! As busy bodies can't wait to ring the station if you pull out on someone, give someone a rude gesture etc. I was always being told off about it ;):D

As reagrds the complaint's. Nick Ferrari top dog at LBC had a caller accused him of parking his car in an invaid space at Tesco. He hit back with the reason why was that he had his disabled mother in the car and not to be outdone in any way said 'no more calls about my parking in those mother & children spaces please. At 9 oclock at night those mums should be home tucking the kids in bed so if there is a space I'll bloody well use it use it.

Good old Nick:eek:

Word of warning Mason. If your out with the radio car team - remember to switch the mike off before you start slagging off the boss for giving you impossible targets.

Poor old Gordon eh and on the same day Nick Clegg is out courting the pensioners promising to safeguard there bus passes and all..

loving all the advice, cheers Minx, Lucy, Eagle and Matt!!

One final thing - how much cheese is too cheesy?

haha the last slide im going to flash their logo up with "MAKE ME HAPPY" in bold, as its their main objective to radio listeners. I'm then going to do another caption of something like "Have I made you happy?"

and then explain how i went into the presentation with three objectives, two of which I hope to have completed. 1) to make the panel laugh or at least smile, 2) have presented myself as a resilient, determined and success hungry individual, and 3) to be offered the role of account exec.

I have nothing to contribute to the thread (why am I posting) except to wonder what sort of person you will end up with if you base a fair part of the interview process on a slideshow saying esssentially, how great they are. I understand the reasoning of course but thankfully I have never had to recruit a salesman.

I mean, in theory the one with the best sales skills will be the one that convinces you they are worth hiring while in fact they may be the least qualified or suitable (which ironically makes them the most qualified for a sale position).

The more i think about it I actually find it strange that they are making you do this presentation at a first interview. In my experience things like this are normally 2nd/3rd interview and i think it is a little unfair if i am honest. You could be the greatest sales person in the world but cr*p with technology! This task would certainly have made me very nervous (me and technology do NOT mix!).

aye it is quite daunting. a few of you guys mentioned sticking some stats and figures in there, how can i fit that in with the title of the presentation?

also, been so consumed in this presentation that I have totally overlooked the actual interview itself.

any one with any idea of questions likely to be asked / tips would be greatly appreciated! x
