Is there a Frontpage equivalent for iMac's?

Hi,

I want to create a web site for myself and used to use Frontpage when I had Windows but now I have an iMac, at last, but iWork doesn't have a web site builder.

I can't afford Photoshop is there anything you guys can suggest? preferably free.

Tony is right, but you don't build websites with Photoshop anyway - that's a graphics package

If iWeb doesn't float your boat Komposer is a good free web site creating tool.

Yes I should have pointed out if it is a business website you are looking to build don't use iWeb as it just doesn't cut the mustard. It's fine for personal sites though.

I'm sure MS Office Live Small Business has support for Mozilla so you should be able to develop a site on a Mac? Not sure you can use it through Safari browser though.

The site is a very simple one for a restaurant we have a share of. We don't want anything too fancy right now just a few pics and the menus, no interactive stuff!

Can't say that I like iWeb too much compared to Frontpage but I shall persist today. I will check out the other suggestions you have made too, thanks everybody.

I would really recommend that you have a look at using Wordpress as a platform.
This would make updating the menus very easy, maintaining the whole site easy too, it's SEO friendly, fast, cheap and more.

Remember make a cheap website, your business will look cheap. As good as you may think the results are to us experts we can quickly spot serious flaws which will show up on a lot of your potential customers PCs.

I don't do websites for clients but I do often advise them on who to use etc and what to look for.

The main thing I will say is other than looking good make sure it complies to all the standards. The problem with a lot of WYSIWYG editors is they introduce far too many bad habbits. I only use text editors for this reason.

You could also look at http://www.realmacsoftware.com/rapidweaver/. It's not free but it's really easy to use and has some stunning themes.

I'd go down the wordpress route too.

use a restuarant theme, add pages to give info re opening hours, address, menus etc -keep it simple. Remember to think about why the site is there, sometimes it is better to be listed in a load of local directories rather than have a website that is so buried in serps that no-one ever sees it anyway,

close down comments until you are ready to manage this side

Yea wordpress is a good starting point. iWeb has rather serious issues when it comes to viewing the sites it produces on anything other than a mac.

With wordpress atleast what you produce will work, although the template will still not give off the best first impression for your business.
