International business project

Hi folks,

So I have an international business project for college.

The objective is to choose a product/service and suggest a country that that product should enter. This is all hypothetical of course.

I chose Nando's and thought that Thailand would be a viable option as Nando's has about a combined total of 30 stores in Malaysia and Singapore and the Thai economy is growing. However I have been advised against it.

With provisions drawn up for the project with Nando's and Asia in mind can anyone advise me if this is a good idea? Would China/Hong Kong/Japan be viable?

Would there be another product or service around the world that would suit another country and be able to enter either through export in the case of a product or franchise in terms of a service?

Any responses will be greatly appreciated

Cheers

Hi Applejet, seems you're struggling to get a response.....

Why not try it from a different perspective and I know this might stretch you a little but play along with the concept/idea ok?.....

Imagine that instead of doing it for college you were doing for yourself.... what would you see as an opportunity?... I guess I'm somewhat older than you if you're still at college (by the way really glad to see you've used your initiative and come on board here!- big thumbs up!)

My two young lads seem to spend half their lives on MSN, Facebook and txting and then explain everything in "like- it's whatever! doh dad!" lol! - a little extreme perhaps but I'm trying to say that a successful idea for importing/exporting comes from originality of thought.

Your originality may come from your youth- you see, hear and explore things in a different world to me because you're younger than me. The opportunities that you see, I mightn't, because I'm older, I operate in a different social world and have different network mediums to you.

Can you see what I'm saying? - An original idea for your college project (and real life) will never come from a txt book or copying, it will come from your belly, your intuition, your observations ....and those are governed by your environment, your age, your upbringing and how you see the world....

So.......... If I wanted to import something unique, different, look to what your friends and their friends are doing in their lives- what do they like doing?- how do they spend their time? what would make it better for them? how do they spend their cash? - Try answering some of those questions first, because if you are able to answer those questions then you have succesfully answered the first question in business (to quote Mrs B****Y Bossy Boots Debroah Meaden)- Is there a demand?

You need to think outside the box- the French have a saying "Cherchez le creneau"- Google it to see what I mean.

I hope my two pennyworth helps you :) feel free to drop me a line if you are still stuck and want to chat or want to think something through ok? - Good luck ! :) Mike

Great advice there. Cheers.

The only issue is we can't be bringing a product/service into our country which I reckon I would be very good at because of the reasons you stated above.

Either way great business advice for life and quite an enlightening way of looking at things.

You told me to get the idea from my belly, that's why I've gone with Nando's into Thailand.

Thanks again
