Importing parrots to uk

Hi there,

I am keen to import a pair of macaws or grey african parrots from either Asia (Pakistan) or Netherlands to the Uk.

If it’s pakistan then it will be via plane/cargo but Netherlands will be via euro tunnel/car/ferry depending on what will be easier/cheaper.

Can someone please give me guidance if anyone has brought pets to the uk and how they did it. Eg what documents are required, what do I need to do as the buyer and what does the seller need to do on his behalf.

If anyone knows a reputable seller too please let me know

Check import risk categories and related rules for animals and animal products imported from the EU to Great Britain, from 31 January 2024

You are aware that both macaws and the grey parrot are on the CITES appendix 1 list, which means trade in them for commercial purposes is banned? You can only even buy them from a CITES registered breeder. And you'll have to prove their provenance when they arrive in the UK.

Not unless you become a CITES registered breeder, I believe.

But also, UKBF, being a B2B forum, isn't really the place for questions like this, although the fact that you want a pair suggests that you are buying them to breed commercially.

Be aware that illegally trading or breeding endangered animals is a serious offence that can result in jail time.

I have been speaking to wildlife licensing but not once have they mentioned this. I will get back to them and find out. Thanks

Also, not many pairs for sale in the UK. All different ages but no documents to show evidence of any dna testing etc.

Why not buy them in the UK?

There are plenty of parrots flying around in my area for free so it might be more economical to simply catch them rather than import any more.
