Hi

Is there anyone out there that is able to help my company with import declarations please?
As may already know, HMRC's website has a list of approved companies who provide software either downloadable or online to enable you to make customs declarations. As far as I'm aware this is the only way to do it.

I am shortly heading to Slovenia by car to pick up a boat on its trailer and tow it back to the UK and I am, therefore, in the process of obtaining customs paperwork to make my arrival in the UK with the item as smooth as possible.

As it happens, I am later today going to have a walk-through with one online provider, www.customs-declarations.uk having come across their website on HMRC and then YouTube where they have a few videos about the process. I will update this later with how I get on.

Hi Martin. thank you for the feedback, however this is not quite right. Here are MIES we can do standalone customs clearance for any UK company bringing goods into the UK with another forwarder. UK companies in this situation like what Martin is facing can use a 3rd party to do the clearance. We are doing this option for many of our customers who do not use us for transportation.

    many thanks

As shipping Guru has said there isn’t a cost effective way to make a customs declaration yourself other than the simplified on line process for private travellers.
A full customs declaration is quite complex so best left to those who know how to do that.
Whilst the online platform you mention lets you do the job that an experienced expert would do it’s just another way of accessing the company commercial software via a portal. There are many codes needed that must be correct and accurate not just the best guess.
Customs can and do post clearance audit so you need to be able to justify what you declare.

If I were the OP I would check various options for cost and efficiency that suit the business best.

I mean I already have software and complete declarations myself. I am looking to stop paying for the software, and delegating it out so I don't have to be in the picture. Just wanting it off my desk now.
This can be done as is done for thousands of companies out there.

I spent about an hour on a 'Google Meet' video call yesterday afternoon with J Lund at app.customs-declarations.uk going through the application on their on-line app to make and submit my import customs declaration which all went smoothly. The google Meet facility allows screen sharing which is obvs very helpful for J. J made it all very straightforward.

I would recommend you set up a Customs Declaration Service cash account beforehand as this shortens the process a bit. You will obvs also need invoices, the weight of the consignment, your own EORI number, VAT number (if VAT registered) and a cup of tea (this list is not exhaustive!).
