How would i go about getting a sponsor

I have recently, 4 months ago started to create a 6 a side football team for which i have a squad currently on a weekly basis of around 10 players, i dont have much in the way of equipment or kits, but i have managed to get the pitchs we train on for free.

I have been told by some friends that the best way to get kits and equipment might be to get some sort of sponsor going, but i am unsure of how to go about it.

Just looking for some advice really on how to go about it.

Our son is 17 and pursuing the pro tennis circuit. Companies will only support success not potential. We have approached several sports and health based companies to ask for sponsorship for him, not millions or thousands just a little equipment. He has to be in top 10 UK for his age group before anyone will look at him, he's 23rd. This has cost us a small mortgage every month to support him on the circuit since he was 11 yrs old. Companies want a larger return on their investment for advertising these days. We're quite lucky or not depending on your interpretation we own our own pro tennis shop, you would also expect that it would be easy with our contacts as well...... no not really cos we are treated the same as normal customers looking for the same deal.
My advice would be to look for small local companies that are looking for exposure and would benefit by helping in the community.

Our local, local team wrote to all of the businesses close by asking if they wanted to sponsor a player (name on website and programme) or advertising at the ground. Ralf Little (of Royal Family fame) had just signed so we decided we'd sponsor him.

If i am right though a business will not look at sponsoring any club or sport unless they have had at least abit of success, as to this been that they know that they will get exposure via shirt or website sponsor whether it just be in the region or whether it be nationwide

Large corporates/internationals with a strong local presence are usually quite keen to sponsor local teams. It shows that they are "putting back" into the local economy. eg our local team is non-league scottish - but sponsored by Nestle because they've got a bloomin' big plant in the town. Nestle are also very strong on donating to and sponsoring other local events.

Don't be scared off just because they are huge companies, they've got a very strong reason to invest some money locally, and what you are asking for will be a pretty small proportion of their marketing spend. Just really emphasis the "local" aspect when approaching.

I haven't really looked at the cost of it all, but well im looing to get a couple of kits and maybe some equipment to aid in our training which would last a while. But when i have had chance to sit down and work it out, then i could say for definate.

I've just written a cheque out to sponsor a local under 10's team. Just over £300 and I should get a fairly big article in the local papers. I'm giving something back and getting a little in return.

Plus you never know who these kids have as parents.

OP....When do you need the sponsorship for? If you could pm we with some details, that would be great.

I'm probably not in a position to sponsor you at this very moment. But I'm launching a company later this year, so if all goes well then it may well be possible.
