How we can stop global warming

also its a bit cheeky, that an airline who's use of aviation fuel which is far dirtier than diesel in turms of pollutants wants to collect newspapers to help them stay "Green"

Its just another excuse for companies who make millions, not to feel guilty about the amount of profit they make, Why don't they "Offset" their CO2, not by collecting newspapers but by knocking 50% off their prices :D Then they can be "Green" or whatever colour they want to be

For me, the biggest tripe-peddling part of this 'green' situation is 'carbon offsetting'. The govt. push this at every opportunity and people are making big £££ off it:- consultants, reports, departments etc.

All it does is show their narrow-mindedness regarding the world situation, they are blinkered into believing that by say the UK offsetting its carbon whatnot against another country, it will somehow help???

The only thing that can help is to lower the polluting effect of the whole planet, not just push it around by offsetting, its just another catch phrase they can use to sound like they give a toss before they jump in their polluting jets and swan off around the globe doing stuff that could just as easily be done via internet video link etc. Of course, that would mean staying at home which is much less fun isnt it :)

Talking of blinkered attitudes - why do people always fixate on jet travel as an example of being 'un-green'?

It's about as efficient a mode of travel as exists.

Cos it it and big time

Environmental battles over the siting and expansion of airports are as old as the air travel industry itself, but only in recent years have the airlines themselves been under pressure to go green.
And there’s no time like the present for the industry to take some action: Air pollution from commercial jets is a growing concern among scientists, as is air travel’s role in climate change because of the more acute warming effect of emissions when they are disbursed so much closer to the upper atmosphere.

According to the Royal Commission on Environmental Pollution, an independent group of scientists that advises the British government, emissions from aircraft will likely be one of the major contributors to global warming by the year 2050. According to USA Today, on a flight from New York to Denver, a commercial jet generates between “840 to 1,660 pounds of carbon dioxide per passenger. That’s about what an SUV generates in a month.”

NASA satellite data from the years 2000 through 2011 show the Earth's atmosphere is allowing far more heat to be released into space than alarmist computer models have predicted, reports a new study in the peer-reviewed science journal Remote Sensing. The study indicates far less future global warming will occur than United Nations computer models have predicted, and supports prior studies indicating increases in atmospheric carbon dioxide trap far less heat than alarmists have claimed.

Study co-author Dr. Roy Spencer, a principal research scientist at the University of Alabama in Huntsville and U.S. Science Team Leader for the Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer flying on NASA's Aqua satellite, reports that real-world data from NASA's Terra satellite contradict multiple assumptions fed into alarmist computer models.

"The satellite observations suggest there is much more energy lost to space during and after warming than the climate models show," Spencer said in a July 26 University of Alabama press release. "There is a huge discrepancy between the data and the forecasts that is especially big over the oceans."

In addition to finding that far less heat is being trapped than alarmist computer models have predicted, the NASA satellite data show the atmosphere begins shedding heat into space long before United Nations computer models predicted.

The new findings are extremely important and should dramatically alter the global warming debate.

Scientists on all sides of the global warming debate are in general agreement about how much heat is being directly trapped by human emissions of carbon dioxide (the answer is "not much"). However, the single most important issue in the global warming debate is whether carbon dioxide emissions will indirectly trap far more heat by causing large increases in atmospheric humidity and cirrus clouds. Alarmist computer models assume human carbon dioxide emissions indirectly cause substantial increases in atmospheric humidity and cirrus clouds (each of which are very effective at trapping heat), but real-world data have long shown that carbon dioxide emissions are not causing as much atmospheric humidity and cirrus clouds as the alarmist computer models have predicted.

The new NASA Terra satellite data are consistent with long-term NOAA and NASA data indicating atmospheric humidity and cirrus clouds are not increasing in the manner predicted by alarmist computer models. The Terra satellite data also support data collected by NASA's ERBS satellite showing far more longwave radiation (and thus, heat) escaped into space between 1985 and 1999 than alarmist computer models had predicted. Together, the NASA ERBS and Terra satellite data show that for 25 years and counting, carbon dioxide emissions have directly and indirectly trapped far less heat than alarmist computer models have predicted.

In short, the central premise of alarmist global warming theory is that carbon dioxide emissions should be directly and indirectly trapping a certain amount of heat in the earth's atmosphere and preventing it from escaping into space. Real-world measurements, however, show far less heat is being trapped in the earth's atmosphere than the alarmist computer models predict, and far more heat is escaping into space than the alarmist computer models predict.

When objective NASA satellite data, reported in a peer-reviewed scientific journal, show a "huge discrepancy" between alarmist climate models and real-world facts, climate scientists, the media and our elected officials would be wise to take notice. Whether or not they do so will tell us a great deal about how honest the purveyors of global warming alarmism truly are

Global Warming is because of CO2 Levels, Industry creates alot un clean co2, this is known now as fact since scientists proved the link between rising temperatures and CO2 Levels. As everyone knows when trees are chopped down and fossil fuels burned we have a net increase in CO2. switching to alternative fuels will slow down CO2 increases, however the rainforests still need protection. An investment firm based in london called clean co2 sells carbon credits these credits are bought in a fund that protects rainforest that without protection was earmarked for the chop, so it really is saving the forest. Clean CO2 is very much the way forward as a means to protect our carbon sinks, the trees, our air and our future. if you want to know more simply search clean co2

Yes global warming is in large part due to CO2 levels. But industry does not, nor never has created a 'lot' of CO2 on a planetary scale. The fact that man produces some CO2, and the fact that CO2 is causing a warming effect, does not mean that man are causing global warming. Not unless you have the mental capacity of a piece of fruit and are limited to only thinking of things in the most simplistic way. The planet is currently colder than it's average temperature. It's supposed to be hotter than now, a lot hotter. Potentially hot enough to wipe our species from it's surface. What's your problem? You think you have some sort of right as a human to this planet? You think you're bigger than nature and can call for action to overwhelm it?

As everyone knows when trees are chopped down and fossil fuels burned we have a net increase in CO2.

We don't yet have the technology or tools to chop trees down faster than alternative CO2 -> Oxygen lifeforms, such as algae, and weeds, can take their place. Chopping trees down will not increase CO2.

switching to alternative fuels will slow down CO2 increases, however the rainforests still need protection.

As above, no they don't. Not as CO2 farms anyway. Although I have to say I'm all for keeping them as a spectacle of nature of course.

And now the point becomes clear. I really get irritated by people like you. You either want to 'protect' a system you blatantly don't understand - or you want to support a company (possibly by attachment?) in cashing in on peoples ignorance.

I mean really, do you bother people you meet on a day to day basis by opening your mouth on a subject, ranting on, all the while proving you don't actually know the basics of what you're waffling on about. Does that not make social interaction hard?

:(

You know, just prevent it, its in our best interests to stop it happening :D:D:D

Exactly! People don't have a clue what they think they're preventing...

Bottom line is most 'conscientious' people want to harm the planet to such an extent that the polar ice caps may never melt. Given the chance they really would stop global warming if they could - that chance would make such people dangerous and niave idiots imo.

This threads an absolute joke. Never have I seen such a concentration of people step forward and publicly show off their opinions with such little understanding or attachment to reality.

I guess people will want to do the best, but its never going to happen.

What really takes the busicuit is that the UK gives billions of taxpayers money in the form of grants to foriegn utility companies to build these wind turbines, and then charge us the most expensive Electric in Europe.

I remember Years ago on tommorrows world that they said that one day we could generate free electricity using windmills  so i guess half is true.

The other thing that puts people right off this global warming crap is the amount of money and indirect taxes we have to pay extra as a result. Its not about saving the Planet its about making money.

With all the billions spent in the UK over the Past 12 years we could of had by now the best equipped nuclear Power Stations built in the UK to give us Electricity Cheaper. At the moment we're buying a lot of our electric from France and their Nuclear Powered stations.

Everyone acknowledges the fact that trees are important to control global warming but are we physically involved in any beneficial way? How many of you have planted a tree this year and did you ever go back to check it how is it doing? I've been trying to persuade people around me for a long time now but frankly speaking only two of them planted a tree and many have such excuses that it silences me.

Thats the truth right there. Trouble is, nobody will believe it.

We should never have stopped our nuclear power station programme, an ideal example of what happens when governments' listen to the green brigade.:(

No they don't. Only people who can't be bothered to think about how things actually work, or who can't be bothered to research their beliefs think trees are important in this matter.

Probably because you are asking them to do something pointless, in an effort to do something about something you know nothing about?

Due to global warming our planet is going to bear so many brunt of the nature like floods, drought, rising sea level, sinking of some habitated and cultivated land, in different parts of the world.

If sea level rises up to some more level then Bangladesh and Maldives will be wiped out.

We should do the following things to reduce the effects of the global warming:

Consume less meat.
Burn less fuel in vehicles,etc.
Do not cut trees but try to plant more trees.
Control population.
Control urbanization.
Expand agricultural area.

i think you mean due to the earths cycles.
non of the above can stop the living organism called planet earth from doing its cycles
not only are there cycles there are new cycles happening all the time.
our planet our solar system is moving ,never in the same place, merrily ghosting around the spiral arm of the galaxy that is the milkway.
we are small, tiny.when you see a picture of earth from space even close up,there is no visible hints of people humans on the planet except for night time lights.

we are tiny.
if man disappeared tomorrow nothing would change .the ice will still come, there will still be floods volcanoes global warming all the things spoken about will remain.

Sea levels have been rising for millions of years, look at what happened when the prehiststoric men lost their homes when the english channel formed millions of years ago, there was no coal powered powerstations then??

I don't understand the point you are trying to raise here:|

Well of course you don't understand. You are someone who thinks that trees are required to convert co2 to oxygen and that planting more will somehow decrease co2 levels related to global warming. Frankly there is much you don't understand!

Worse, you are apparently passing misinformation onto others and asking them to act on it.

How about this for a notion... Remove all trees tomorrow and co2 will not rise. Plant a trillion more and it won't fall.

C02 would rise for a sort while in that situation movietub. When you destroy a tree it releases all that it had absorbed.

Only very short term. There are many tiny plants and algaes that can replicate in an abundance of co2 faster than a tree takes to die.

Unless man is somehow able to track down and destroy all plant life, including algae and scum, and destroy every last cell, then lower atmosphere co2 levels are not changeable. Upper atmosphere co2 is a different matter, but I hardly need point out that trees don't grow up there!

As I keep saying, we need o3 in huge quantities to clean up the stuff up there. If we did this, it's possible that global warming rates may be affected as a result - but only delayed a tiny bit.

No action we can take will change the scariest bit, the fact that our species came into existence when the planet was much cooler than it's average temperature. We are currently still in an iceage, as we come out of it then obviously survival will be difficult.

Yes, it's real. It's been warming up since the Ice Age ended. What I don't believe is real is that Man has any significant impact on it.

Don't get me wrong, we should reduce our affect on the environment as much as we possibly can, in all ways. Living sustainably is common sense and our gross consumerism goes against all we know is good and wise. But believing we have made a big impact and we can change it back, focusing on very specific pollutants (CO2) rather than them all, and using it all as an excuse to tax us is stupid in the extreme.

The recent recession and lack of security has made us less willing to pay more for so-called "green" products while, ironically, reducing our comsumption in many cases.
Climate change is real. Have you not noticed the change in the time of seasons over the past 40 years, which are the result of the Governments' policy of globalisating pollution via the "clean air acts" instead of removing the subsidies for the polluting businesses that created the killer smogs of the 50's?
Climate change is increased by man's activities like change in land use, & deforestation. However the impact of man has been increasing over the past 200 years because of the increasing rate of using fossil fuels (that have taken millions of years to form) and using burnt elements of earth (clay into bricks, sand into glass) to build urban areas that are 4c warmer than the surrounding country.
Building Roads increases climate change even without creating extra traffic because everything absorbs & radiates energy from the sun at different vibration levels form other substances.
The policy of destroying Rain Forest eco-systems to get a temporary monoculture crop of methane producing cows for the burger trade.
Governments think businesses create wealth by making a profit {extracting more money from their customers than they pay to obtain the goods they sell} so Governments do not make businesses pay for the damage they cause via pollution or by selling harmful products (drugs, alcohol, tobacco, junk food, false advertising etc) and even allows them to deduct costs before paying any tax. This is why customers pay for waste in terms of their health & financially 3 times over (in the price of the good, in the Council Tax to store the waste, and in extra taxation to fund the subsidy)

Consuming less (especially from those businesses that do not include all their costs in their pricing) will help reduce the climate change as well as boosting your health because despite the lies that advertisers tell you, having the latest product can not make you happy because happiness is a felling so comes from within you.

Pollution will increase the temperature of specific areas clearly but there are more less populated areas on the earth than populated.

The real issue with smog and city pollution is it needs to be dispersed or turn greener to prodice it in a less harmful way to humans.

That is nothing to suggest global temperature change, just local.

Scientists who have just completed several years of pole-to-pole flights have uncovered data that confirms some of the deep worries about human-generated global warming that had been predicted by computer-based mathematical models.

The flights offered the most comprehensive look to date at greenhouse gases accumulating in the atmosphere, warming the planet and setting off chains of effects on climate.

The data mined by the National Center for Atmospheric Research team will take years to analyze. Asked about his first overall impression, however, the project's chief investigator, Steven Wofsy, a professor of Atmospheric and Environmental Science at Harvard University, said, "It certainly doesn’t make me feel more relaxed" about human-induced climate change.

Mike tells it like it is

how does the global warming is going to affect our planet? What can we do about it? Is it as real as people say it is?

Global warming stopped 13 years ago.

These things are controlled by activity on the sun and how close to the sun we happen to be tilting on our access whilst orbiting.

The green agenda is just that an agenda.

Countless time sit has come out that figure have been fiddled.

Global warming simply is not man made.

Do we damage our countryside and make it look a tip -yes.

a chimpanzee can make tools

A dog can control other dogs in a pack.

Animals kill other animals to eat-that's one for the vegetarians.

One man does is just part of the grand scheme.

Who are we to engineer which animals survive and which don't-as sad as it may be?
