How to persuade Argos

I have to agree with Plancks last post.

Lets not forget that this is Argos we're talking about - not Joes Desks Ltd. I'm sure Argos would want to resolve this but somehow I don't think it's a big priority for them. This is a drop in the ocean - no real problem for them. They've offered a solution and you're not happy with it. Somehow, and I know this may come across as harsh, I doubt they really care what you think.

Joes Desks ltd on the otherhand would probably have everything sorted out on the same day and send a tin of biscuits for you to nibble one :0)

What difference does it make who the company is? Like I said, it is poor customer service. Like I said, it gives the impression that the customer's satisfaction is not their priority. When customers feel like they are being treated like a "drop in the ocean" they ultimately feel frustrated and unhappy. This is poor customer service!

"The mishap occurred due to a data error in our product catalog system. While we do have a comprehensive system in place to identify such errors, unfortunately on this occasion it was not flagged up to us until you had made us aware of the problem with your order. We have now corrected the data error, and we are confident that the issue will not be repeated in the future.

ROFL...

Do you think the customer support rep responding to the email has this level of information? Would it be reasonable for them to have this level of information?

Or perhaps you think they should just spout such waffle with no basis in fact?

As for the "we are confident that the issue will not be repeated in the future." bit - why on earth do you think such assurance is possible, relevant or required?

Now, have I made it plain enough for you?

Oh, you've made some things very plain indeed...

Oh, you've made some things very plain indeed...

You are making some incredible allowances for the company and once again revealing your terrible attitude towards customer service. Believe it or not, it is a corporate decision to have customer service personnel who are completely disconnected from the logistics of the actual business. There are plenty of businesses around, and yes, even some major businesses, that have customer services teams that are intricately linked to the logistical parts of the business. These businesses have recognised that the customer service team is the vital link they need to the people that use their products and services. The information guides development and maintenance of their systems and procedures.

So what is a customer service agent to you? Someone who just sits there and has no ability to actually address any problems? Do you think that the limit of what Argos's customer service agents should be able to do is to refund an order, and then ask the customer to order it themselves? Does that sound like a wise way to spend money on staff? Does it not sound like they might be slightly underusing a potentially very valuable resource?

I find it incredible that you just assumed that a customer service agent that tells someone something has actually done something to resolve an issue long term would automatically be making it up.

Like I said, I think Argos offered poor customer service.

I can just picture you saying this over and over again while stomping your feet.

I don't stomp my feet, I generally get things resolved to my satisfaction. And when I worked in customer service, I had the reputation for delivering excellent customer service.

You really seem to have an irrational hatred of the people that make business possible - the customers.

But they will get their goods won't they how much experience do you have with B2C and credit card Companies :|

The goods were not delivered, the company did not offer a full refund. This is a bad transaction and the customer is protected under credit laws. The charge back should be authorised.

But it won't be end of ;)

CC's do not just take one side of the story you know,

I think I can see both sides of this arguement, on the one hand, a large faceless company like argos doesn't have the capability of having in-depth knowledge of each transaction available to customer service reps, but isn't that how they keep costs down? And isn't that why we love them? I think if you want personal service, smaller independents are always best, but with larger companies, this can vary a lot more, for the reasons stated above.

But then again, as a customer, it is nice to be made to feel valued, whether that is for buying a £1.99 pen in WHSmiths or, for spending £5000 on a love seat (or whatever, I have no idea why that came into my head) from a local independent carpenter.

Either way, I think the customer is right to be annoyed, but cannot say much as at least they've responded (even if it wasn't to some of his questions, some responses seemed a bit generic). And on the other hand, Argos could've done more (I noticed someone in an earlier post said, they'd managed to do that for him).

There is right and wrong on both sides in my opinion.

And to re-reinforce my original assessment of the OP as unreasonable, he's just posted this on the IT forum:

"Is it possible to hide domain details such as the own details from public? I think the domain name provider has trespassed my privacy by offering my domain name details including addresses etc to public websites such as whois.domaintools.com."

(my bold)

Clearly someone who goes around thinking everyone is out to get him, and makes no effort to understand other people's systems and procedures.

That is completely separate to the matter at hand. I do not really see the relevance.

Planck, I think you've gone to far. I think you've had a wrong interpretation of this thread and the original post. I wasn't that bothered that Argos has made an error after purchasing from their store. All I was looking for is away to make the process a bit faster for some very urgent reason. (If possible). Certainly I don't think everyone is out to get me. Just looking for a better solution than wait.

I don't think I've gone too far at all. I think most reasonable people reading your OP and your emails to Argos would reach the same conclusion. You start off thinking the worst of people, thinking that you've been wronged, even when you haven't. Two threads clearly demonstrate this.

But the other party clearly was at fault. They delivered the wrong product and they did not offer a full refund. The best that they could offer was to try ordering again with a new transaction, and face another 3 week wait. In my opinion, this is not resolving the issue satisfactorily, and the customer is being quite reasonable to complain.

Explain to me exactly what the customer has done in this situation to be "at fault"?

Planck,

Yes I have been 'wronged' by Argos. I think that's very clear in topic of this thread 'Wrong item sent'. (That's a mistake isn't Planck). And the emails I've sent to Argos shows how not helping theywere. Perhaps you might like to explain in which way Argos has not made a mistake here. And how I'm wrong to be angry for their errors (which I'm not by the way).

As others have said, there are two sides going on for this argument.

1. To a certain extent, I agree with Robert and that it is not the best level of customer service being offered. If it were to be my business, I would be looking to turn a negative into a positive and gaining a customer for life.

2. The above wil never happen with somebody like Argos. Fact of the matter is that each time you buy from a faceless chain, you do so on their terms, knowing that the aftersales service is crap. Same applies to a;; chains, whether it be Argos, PC World, Comet and so on.

Fact is, if you want proper service, support your local independent.

May cost you more, but you'll get the service.

The Plank is obviously someone who has never run a company and just lives to wind people up, basically the village idiot who knows nothing about company service

As the ordered goods have not been supplied the customer has a few options

He can cancel the order as it has not been delivered and also within the statitory time period even if they had been, and should have his money refunded as the goods have not been dispatched (distant selling regs)

The goods supplied are not his responsibility, but as he signed for them he does have a duty of care, he can overcome this by telling the company when they can collect and stipulate a maximum time he is willing to keep them

He can approach the card company for a chargeback as the goods have not been dispatched or received

I personnaly would write to the Managing Director at Argos and include the corespondence asking him to intervene. I always find going to the top sorts out things very fast

That's very clever, I see what you did there. Get off on making fun of people's surnames, do you?

Very amusing thread, pity it took 60 posts to get to the real issue as far as everyone else is concerned !

I made the same point in a round-about way. It's pretty much a nothingness to Argos yet a small, independant would pull out all the stops to get a satisfactory resolution.

I couldn't commit myself to staying in from 7am to 6pm on any one day just because someone else made an error. That would cost me too much money.
