How To Get Around Business Naming Problem.

I trying my best to think of a innovative Company Name, But - There All being used.

I've been thinking for around 3 days, trying to find a name.

A Name I really Like is taken , this Being Zafari.

other Names I though of That Are Taken :

AZTEK / AZTEC
ZEUS-TEK
Zento
ORBIT


My Company start up is about selling branded PC peripherals, however a long term goal we hope to develop Embedded systems - shipping them off with are own Software which Is currently in development.

Anyway , I was Just wondering if I have Missed Something.
Could I Register Zafari as a tech based company?

Sorry but for a hi-tech company I wouldnt say any of those names were innovative - Out of the 5 names you have I know of 4 businesses using those names already and thats just in South Wales.

I believe (but you will need to check this) that it is possible to use a variation of the name if you are in a different area.

Rather than invent a name - why not name it after your own surname or initials? Some guy named Michael Dell did something similar and it worked out ok I think.

I Doubt I can Do Anything With Nathaniel Bennett, thanks for your advice anyway.

The real Question I'm trying to ask , is,
Could I Register as "Zafari-tek" , but just use "Zafari" on my Products , or Do I HAVE to have "Zafari-Tek" on my products?

I also Have another name, But I have had the name For 3 years , it's great , I like it - but I Don't want to use it yet.
And I Don't Want to Say it, in case it gets stolen.
And It Hasn't been registered.

And Yes , "Innovative" probably isn't the word - probably, more , Professional sounding then 600 other names I Made Up - basically , variations of words with "-Bit" on the End IE , "TinyBit" and "BadBit"

I Like Zafari - but...yeah...

You can brand your products differently to your company name
The last thing you want is to get going with a name and be forced to change it just when you get a foothold.
It takes time to brainstorm and is worth it to keep going until you hit on something available

none of them are fantastic names. I could go on.

I Think I Can Use Zafari -
Zafari Limited is There Company - But they sell a service not a Product.

Zafari-Tek will Be My Company - But Zafari Will Be My Brand

There Company is registered , while My Zafari Brand Will Be TradeMarked

Basically it Will Only Be Bad if I Interfere with there sell's - They Don't even have a website , So Does it make it more Pluasable?

Whatever you choose telephone some contacts and run it past them. If there is any confusion or need to spell then avoid it because you'll spend the rest of your life covering whatever the confusion is several times a day.

Pick a name you like. It doesn't have to sound techylike at all.

Yes - I'm Selling Branded Computer Accessories at Low Prices - It's Only Going to be a Small Business, Based Around eBay Initially.

Looking at the competition, they seem to Share Customers fairly equally - And I Wouldn't mind Getting a Share.

I Should make at least 200% profit for each unit I Sell , Which I Believe is Fairly Good.

My Number 1 Tactic , is thinking - "Would I Buy My Product Over my Competitors?" if no - Rethink Market Strategies.

I'm Only 17 By the way - PC Peripherals Are Cheap - Perfect for Low Start-up Capital.

Plus Corporations and Schools Don't Buy Expensive Peripherals - My College Recently got a whole new suit of hardware - since they need 300-1000 Units - and Since Kids more likely ruin hardware - they but on the cheap.

Plus - I Have Experience in Web Design and technologies - C++ , C# Programming which allows me to design Custom Software for my devices.
In a word I Have a slight "Edge" over other Indie Companies.
I Also Study Art and Graphic Design which Helps with Innovative Product Branding.

You could use your other names...(the weird ones) as product names as suggested by nachman99.

Your 17 now and those names seem cool and unique to you, but unless it makes you millions when your 30 you'll wonder what the hell you were thinking.

Hmm...For ICT A-Level I Had To Develop my own Company And Create Documents with Matching House Style As The Business Name And Logo.
We Had To Do a Travel Agent - So I Called My Mock-up Business "Bennett Breaks."

- I Just Want it to Feel Professional? I Don't see any harm in that?

I Hope in the Future to Develop Embedded Systems, ie ARM Based Computers which Run My Own Darwin Based Operating System I'm Developing... Similar To iOS on the Apple Mobile Platform - But I hope to integrate a "Wand" Peripheral like the Wii Remote - but Cheaper.

So, Yeah .... I Have BIG Dreams - And Was Born 20 years too Late.

I wanted To Start Now Simply Because I wanted some Income so I Can Rent an Office for my Darwin OS Work - Which I'm Mainly Focused On At The Moment.

So Yeah...The Name Is Important to me.

If I Had "Bennett's Micro Supplies" - I Wouldn't be Taken Seriously in The global market - which I want to eventually break into - Isn't it better to Create a Great Identity now - And Build Upon It , without having to Change it in the Future? Plus "Bennett's Micro Supplies" Doesn't sound appealing to potential buying if there name isn't "Bennett"

-That Was An Initial Design - Use Zafari as a Boot Strap Company - Try To Sell It Later on Down The Line So I can Fund Development For My Micro Computers in 5 - 10 Years Time - Which I Wanted To Use My Alternative Branding Which I've had For Secret Now For 3 Years - While I was Learning OS Development.

I've been told I can't start my own business till I'm 18?
Wow- I've been planning this for 3-4 years - my parents said wait till I have some money- I finally contacted suppliers - got my final logo design through - settled on a Name - (not ZAFARI btw) order a custom design t-shirt to wear in a commercial thing I can do at school with the green screens.
I have light boxes and everything - all the resources Icould possibly want - and I can't start till I'm 18 when I leave.
What brainless t**t thought this was a good idea?

Is there anyway my parents can do something? - become my partners or something?

I suppose you could get them to open and operate the company for you untill you are 18, but you wouldn't be allowed to have anything to do with it legally, except maybe be an employee.

You don't need to be 18 to become self employed. However you may have some difficulty opening a business bank account and you certainly won't be able to get any loans, overdrafts, credit cards etc until your 18.

It's not impossible to start a business if you're under 18, but it can be a lot more difficult if you aren't dealing solely in cash.

I'll give it a go- being self employed that is. If I enter that I'm 17 in the online form they should just say I'm too young if I'm not allowed right?

What's the options I have now then? If I can't use eBay? I'll have to just get an ssl certified site and sell my products there- But I have lost massive marketing potential - and will need to definatly think things through.

There is no age restriction on being self employed, so you won't be rejected for being too young.

eBay & PayPal are officially out, but you could probably get away with opening an account in a parent's name (with their permission) then open an account in your own name when you turn 18.

Yeah thanks - my dad is willing enough to do that. -Does he also have to register to be Self employed? - And how would that integrate with his job? Since he's not actually self employed.

And I have decided to get sources from Germany - so I don't have to fuss about VAT - Still researching never the less!

I'm not sure if your dad would need to also register as self employed, best wait for someone else to answer on that one. If he does need to register as self employed, it would have no impact on his job.
