How to find my clients

Hello All,

I run a small trading company to help the foreigners to source in China. Nowadays, it's really hard to find clients. My friends, do you have any good advice how to expand my business? Thanks in advance.

B. rgds,
Frank

If you are running an online business, it's obvious that the answer is right in front of yours ( your website )..

Start and advertise it properlly, do some PPC activity and you will see the clients. Though do a small audit on the website before starting, so you can have a well done analyse over the site, market you want to strike.

Good Luck !

The Internet is a great and powerful tool in order to discover new clients. Other than your own website which should be your first port of call, promoting through media sites such as twitter is also a fantastic method of communicating with existing clients and attracting the attention of new ones. It's also worth trying to find the clients yourself as well as trying to attract the clients to you. Seek out firms that may benefit from your services and contact them directly. That is all I can advise from my personal experience and I hope it can be of some use to you and your business.

It's going to be very hard especially in the European Union to bring in workers from abroad as many UK citizens and EU citizens are losing their jobs to outsourcing (or to international people). With that being said, there has been a lot of pressure on governments to tax businesses extra if they do, in fact, hire someone from abroad. In France, from what I've heard, the government gives tax breaks to companies that hire only French people.

I think, firstly you need to figure out which product is your strong point; then google some relevant company like wholesaler, supermarket ect. Contact them and sell your service. As I know, most supermarket source their product through agents. Maybe you can have a try.

Be it a physical business or an online one, the best tool to get clients is to market it appropriately. First you much decide who you want your target clients to be. Then attack:) the best places to find potential clients is to create social networking websites's profiles such as Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. keep in mind that you muct update your profile for the latest happenings and events, give out promotional deals, put up videos of your business on Youtube. Goodluck:)

I think it depends on your area of speciality. There are several posts on this forum with people saying that they are unable to find a reliable sourcing agent, or because of language issues. May be you can go through the threads here and see if some one is looking for sourcing services.

If you are looking for local clients (not in China) then I suggest you make a Facebook Business page and link it to your website. You have to think like the client when designing it - what does the client need now and what is your strong point that you can offer better than anyone else.
If you can answer their immediate need with a uniques solution - then those who do find you will convert easily .
So my main point is don't look for lots of clients because it's a lot of work - just target the ones who need what you have and convert them easily.:)

market survey companies, such as dSearchison, generally employ qualified market research associates and market analysts with extensive experience in market research and survey. Leveraging their vast experience and profound knowledge, these analysts are able to come up with industry reports containing detailed analyst view, overview of the market with opportunities and challenges that exist therein, besides the latest news surrounding the specific industry they are researching on.

Maybe, instead of stressing on how to find more customers, you should start thingking of where do your most successful competition find their customers. To a certain degree, analysing the outward communications of the competing businesses and their attempts to attract customers may prove to contain the answer you are looking for. In some cases it is possible to get the customer information handed to you on a plate directly from your competitors. Some businesses release catalogues, magazines or annual brochures and accounts containing detailed breakdowns of their customer demographics. I found this tip and other very useful tips on The Customer Magnet by Michael Cheney.

I don't know if your sourcing would include fabrics for upolstery and curtains etc. if it does then would approaching companies that exhibit at tradeshows such as Maison et Objet in Paris this September work? The show has alot of exhibitors in this area and I think that there is a directory of exhibitors. So you can trawl through that and pick out some that might work.

http://www.maison-objet.com/ (link to exhibitor directory at the top)

If that works then you could also look up the decorex show in London and there is Chelsea design centre in london which has a large number of fabric outlets. I think they have a website which lists all the companies that have showrooms in the centre.

"You owe it to yourself not to make the same mistake we did. You must become a customer of your competition. It’s exciting! You get to see the prices they charge, the products and services they offer, what their customer service is like, any upsells and downsells they have, the quality of their product, the speed of their delivery and the overall feel of what it’s like to do business with them. " from The Customer Magnet. Sometimes you can get a list of customers the competition publish in reports and publications.
