How much does it cost to have an APP developed?

I'm not interested in talking prices with developers from here (sorry guys).

I'm talking about the big professional firms. I saw on The Apprentice they went to Grapple studios to have their apps developed. How much do you think a big firm charges for a project?

It's not that I feel people here aren't good enough. It's just a huge idea and requires trust that the idea is not stolen.

Yes, I plan to email around but I made a quick post on here to get a general idea and break down of it. Being that this is a business forum and all!

You have basically asked for advice, then told everyone you have asked for advice, they are not upto the job, and you don't trust them with your idea.

There is a way to get advice but this isn't it. The answer to your question is how much is a car?

As a director of a medium sized development company, I could answer this question, if enough information was given to do so.

I could also provide reassurance on the confidentiality issues.

On behalf of the people of UKBF I am not sure why membership of this forum would make you an unsuitable candidate for a shot at this job - businesses here represent a range of sizes and skills, I am sure.

I'm saying go and do your own research before commenting

It was a straight question. I am not saying you are wrong but I admit I do find it hard to believe.

Why do Apple want to know how long you have spent developing your app? And how could they know if your figure is accurate.

The other thing to consider here is that developing the mobile client is only half the story. In most cases apps will be powered by a server application that is outside of the control off Apple.

Has you research considered the amount of work required on the server side?

Uneek, you seem very ignorant.

I have developed for iphone, and apple have no idea how much work went into the production of my app, why would they??

You clearly dont have a clue about software development, as if you did you'd know that you can approach any software company with an NDA and get them to sign it, thus protecting your idea and your business. If they do decide to copy it (which in all likelihood they wont) you'll protected with a written signed document.

And from there on get them to price the development of the app based on your very specific design document (which you probably havn't done)

Writing down a paragraph along the lines of: I have a great idea for a game, which is in 3d and has spaceships and you can fly any where in the universe and kill aliens, does not a design document make. You need to explain the logic and process of everthing. Something you can only do with experience of writting games or programs.

Your inital post seems like one of laziness, rather than one of a considered appraoch to software design.

Yep some right b.s. posted on this thread. Apple do not care how long an app takes, nor do they track or publish those figures! For me there is one thing greater than the time spent developing an app; its commerciality.

One of my best selling apps took literally hours to write. Another took many weeks and after a year on the app store I got requested by Apple to remove it.

As the wise ones have said without a *detailed* spec nobody can quote you accurately. My guess is like many people who say they want an app developed you probably dont have the cash to get the app done, and, more importantly you haven't done a marketing plan or set aside funds for marketing.
