How do I promote my new website?

Hi I have just launched a website called "million pound email", and I want to now how to market / push it. The idea is to get people to register for the email but also to sell advertising space on the email that the people receive.

Any advice?

What incentive are you going to give people to register for the email?

It sounds like a good idea but you have to give them a reason to open your email in the first place. If your ezine is just full of ads they will just be forwarded to the junk mail or worse - unsubscribe and gone forever!

Firstly, if you haven't done so already register your site with the directories.. yahoo, dmoz.. etc

Make sure your you are search engine optimised - if you have to ask what seo is get someone to help you. Getting the right key words that are very niche is a time consuming experience. Then putting these keyworks (one seperate keywork phrase per page) into your title tag, headings and scattered through your text is relatively easy (and more interesting) after that.

After that, I would put a pop-up on your site which pops up twice (proven to be much more effective) offering an incentive to sign up. Do a deal with a friend/business aquaintence/someone from this forum who has a product that appeals to your target market. Offer the visitor a chance to win the product and draw the prize once per month... your friend will get free exposure for his product and in return will give you the product for free.

If you're looking for fast measurable results I'd recommend looking into Google Adwords.

If setup correctly you'll be able to track the ROI to the keyword level.

After you know which keywords lead to business then you can start thinking about SEO.

First find out who is your competition, any good web designer/marketing guru should be able to help you with this by looking at what rankings they have on Google, utilitise what keywords/meta tags and link referrals they have on their sites and combine them. Use them to your advantage and bring your site into the focus within 6-8 weeks. In the mean time use Google Ad-Words to get you a top ten ranking on the sponsored listings which needs to be monitored, but if timing and cost is an issue do not spend large amounts of money on Google-Adwords as they will be gone in a few days, plan with your web designer/seo/marketing person when you are going to both strategically push your website out there like there is no tomorrow to make the biggest impact possible. Then you will get the results you would expect. Good luck

Personally, I would avoid putting those 'pop ups' on your website, as they are highly annoying, and off putting, but many people fear they are trying to place a tracking cookie on their pc.
