I set up my business in early 2013 and registered it for Corporation Tax online when it became active soon after.
However, I've received a letter from HMRC saying the business seems inactive and that I should notify them when it becomes active.
I have already registered the company for corporation tax, so I'm not sure what else I must do to notify them?
I would appreciate some advice on this. Thank you.

Did you notify hmrc of the date the company became active when you registered for corporation tax? If not I would advise you todo this online as soon as possible. You get 3 months from the active date to advise hmrc.

I'd send a letter (keeping a copy) advising that the company is active and that you have informed them already and remind them of the date.

Does the letter refer to Corporation Tax, or to PAYE? Completely separate departments. You might have registered as an employer but not made any returns to them, in which case they will query the company's status as an employer.
