Hi there!

My name is Hannah, and I live in Durham, in the North East. I design and make beaded jewellery, mainly necklaces, and some bracelets using glass beads and tiny beads called seed beads.

Like many people in this credit crunch I found myself unemployed and thought I'd try turning something I love into a business! I've recently set up a small online business selling the jewellery I design and make and I thought I'd join this forum and see if anyone can help me get some ideas to get my business off the ground!! I set up a site at the beginning of the summer and have so far had Zero sales!!

Hi Hannah,

Welcome to the forums. I've just had a quick look at your website. Without going into detail the biggest problem I can see is it doesn't look like an e-commerce shop. The home page looks more like a blog. You should have your products on your homepage and let people drill down from there. The photo's aren't great either for jewellery products.

I'm sure there are hundreds of other things that would improve your site and marketing but this is a start...

Hi Hannah

Welcome aboard. Ok, I've got to say it... advertise advertise advertise, but theres always plenty of free options out there.

Google "homemade jewellery" and see what your competiton looks like, as Alex said, showcase your products.

But look around other jewellery online stores and get some inspiration!

Hi Hannah

Welcome to UKBF, hope you have a wonderful time here and it helps your business. It's great to see people make a business out of things they love doing, so wish you every success.

Have you considered eBay? Would have thought handmade, individual items like yours would be an ideal thing to sell on there, especially if you set a shop up.

Secondly, have you tried the online crafting forums, blogs etc?

Lastly, what about Twitter and Facebook?
