help needed for first time business.van rental

Good evening,

I am looking for some advice of starting up a van rental business.
I currently have premises,

I just need to no how about setting up with EVERYTHING else.
I've got a best friend who is a mechanic and can keep the van s in good order
our target market is people moving homes.

we both have a small amount of experience of business but not a lot.
could anybody give me some good tips.

You can register the business with Companies House.

Other ideas include:

- Set up a website to promote your services
- Set up a google places listing for your business address (connect your website address to it)
- Advertise locally using adwords express
- Submit your website and business details to local business directories
- Deliver Flyers to any house that has a for sale or sold sign on the premises
- Ask to display flyer in local estate agents window for a small fee

Firstly, I don't think there is a lot to be made out of this type of business...I've been there.

Secondly, if your going to try, then your advertising and promotion should be clear and correctly spelt. Please try and clean up your use of the English language. Spelling is all important in any type of advertising, promotion, letter writing etc !

One of the key points is good company branding, need to make sure you have a brand working throughout the whole company from a logo, leaflets, logos on vans and so on.

Hire businesses as a rule are very capital intensive - ie you need to invest in good quality assets to hire out (unless you are aiming for 'rent-a-wreck')

Whilst my primary business is lending money, I would strongly suggest that you don't go into this business on the basis of everything being on finance, as that will provide you with no slack in lean periods.

A good starting pit on any plan is to work on cashflow projections - not only is that the heartbeat of your business, but the template itself will raise interesting questions about costs and requirements.

I think you need to do the numbers first before going into this business. A van will cost you about £500/month so you will need 10 rental days per month just to break even. You probably will get an easy 8 (the weekends), unless you have the leads for some longer term commercial deals it could be very tight to make money.
