Hayfever & Kenalog Injections

I have suffered with hayfever for the last 18 years or so. For about two months in the middle of summer, I get it so badly that I can't leave the house. When I do have to, the symptoms become so bad that I'm basically disabled.

A couple of weeks ago, someone sent me a link about a steroid injection called Kenalog. After looking into it, I went to see my doctor about having it. Without giving any sort of particularly good reason (except that hayfever was apparently just 'irritating' and didn't justify the very minor risk), he dismissed the subject and refused to talk about it.

So, frustrated at the fact that I was going to suffer for the next two months, and lose yet another summer to the b.stard condition, I got online and looked desperately for an alternative way of getting the injection. Eventually, I found a company called [urlno="http://www.samedaydoctor.co.uk/"]SameDayDoctor[/urlno] who have drop-in clinics in both London and Manchester.

I booked myself an appointment, paid 130 quid and was given the injection the very next day.

SUCCESS!!!

3 hours later, I was walking through a field of long grass in the warm evening sun with not so much as a sneeze. My eyes are fine, my nose isn't blocked, and best of all I've had no side effects at all.

There are risks involved, so do your research, but for those of you who really do suffer, I can't recommend it enough. After 18 years of suffering, it's like a miracle.

I took this stuff for a while and had bad stomach issues with it that along with another treatment now mean I have no lining left in my stomach, mind I was taking it for some 8 months on a regular basis, so slightly different and not for hayfever either!

Just watch out for restless, sleepless nights, which I am told by others who have taken it would appear to be the biggest side affect.

Wow. Sorry to hear that.

The dosage for hay fever is very low (for most sufferers, 1x40mg injection per year will see them through the entire season).

It's a corticosteroid injection, so not sure if it would cause restlessness or sleepless nights at those dosages (unless perhaps that's a symptom of high blood pressure, which it can cause).

(Obviously, I don't have massive allergic reactions - except to cats - or that could be just extreme dislike) - your milage may vary!

A perfectly reasonable response for most people, as there are risks involved. However, in 18 years, I've never been able to enjoy a summers day. I can't describe how nice it is to be able to walk down the street without feeling like I've been CS gassed.

Still, with medicines like this, I think people should be educated about the risks and given the option, rather than being told a straight no.

I have that every time I walk into a room which has a cat in it or a room which has once had a cat in it... horrid furry things - always licking their bums too!!

Wow I never knew there was an injection. Thanks for this. I like you get it really very bad for 2 months of the year, I have to literally keep sun glasses on constantly and carry around a bucket of Vaseline to put around my nose. It is so bad.

Trouble is I'm no where near London or Manchester Thanks for sharing this though! I'm going to look around for somewhere near me that offer this injection.

I have suffered with hayfever for the last 16 years myself.... but I have also developed allergies to cats, dogs, dust and aerosols.... what a life! lol my eldest daughter, 6 years, also suffers. She ahs the usual antihistmaine and eyedrops, not much for her because of her age but I have started using nasaleze, a cellulose nasal powder. It's great! Does take a bit of getting used to with the dosing as of course it's nasal, makes you sneeze if you spray too much, but once you've got the hang of it, it's great!
I couldn't get this in any pharmacy, I had to order online

I live quite far from London, but I couldn't find anyone else who would guarantee me the injection. I was wary of 'samedaydoctor' to begin with, but as it turns out the surgery is the nicest I've been in and the staff were great.

The injection is still working fine. My only problem now is that I want to be outside in the sun rather than inside working!

I'm getting the Kenalog injection tomorrow. Can you tell me Mat_D does it hurt having it put it? I hear it has to go into a large muscle such as the buttocks.

Yep, goes into a muscle; Usually the buttocks! It doesn't hurt. Where are you having it done?

I went to the doctors on wed and tried to get the hayfever injection as hayfever is ruining my life i cannot hack another summer of no being able to go out!!! I explained this to the doctor and they told me they didnt do the injection! When i read your post i was really happy that there may be a chance i could get the injection. just wanted to no whats the best time to get the injection is it now or closer to the summer months??? I went on the website and it said that it was £90 for the consultation is that ontop of the amount u paid for the ionjection??? Thanks Lucy x
