Google Page Speed Optimizer for Magento 2 extension

There are various extensions that can help you to speed up the loading of your Magento site's pages although a lot of things can also be implemented manually. It really depends on exactly what needs improving.

Why do you think using an extension for this is a bad idea?

Because I have no proofs and expertise :(

I see. You can't conclude that something is a bad idea just because you don't know for sure yourself.

As I say though, it depends on what needs doing to be honest. You'd need to run your website through Google PageSpeed Insights or similar and see exactly what they suggest and whether an extension can deliver what needs improving without negatively impacting your website.

Hi, Aleksander. Page optimization is indeed an important aspect of a great webstore performance.
I would personally recommend you the Defer JS for Magento 2 module. You can find it at store.belvg.com. It moves the JavaScript elements, if there are any, from the header to the bottom of the page, which immensely minimizes the loading speed.

Very detailed answer. I'll provide some more:
Choose a fast hosting provider
Reduce HTTPs request
Using Hero layouts instead of slide
Reduce redirects and get rid of broken links on your site

From my experience they don't deliver results they advertise.

In 99% cases a slow Magento site is slow because of 3rd-party extension(s). A simple extension audit would speed up your site better than all of those optimization extensions combined.

But have you checked if there are any issues with the store?

For instance:

Server-side

  • Choose a decent web host
  • Host assets separately
  • Compression with GZip
  • Minimize Redirects
  • Reduce DNS Lookups
The assets (CSS, JavaScript, Images)

  • Merge multiple JavaScripts into one
  • Compress Javascript & CSS
  • Customize header expiry/caching
  • Off-load the assets
  • Handling web images
  • Handling CSS
