Do you know what google page rank means and how is it calculated?

I know the page rank start from 0 the worst up to 10 the best ranking.

What google page rank a website should have to be considered as doing all right.

Thank you,

There is a real complicated maths equasion I could show you about PR, but in short:-

Do you know what google page rank means and how is it calculated?
See above, it is the mathematical value of a page. Google have 2 sides to their algotithm
1. Relevance- this is textual and is language based
2. Importance - this is purely numerical, and it is this which is page rank.
In short, it is calculated whereby a page can 'vote' an amount up to 85% (approx) of its own PR value for that page. The value is set, then shared out across all the links on that page, internal and external follow and nofollow. (Nofollow share gets lost as it is blocked from passing juice). The amount per link is not equal though, as a link in the body copy of your page would get a higher value than a footer link for example.

I know the page rank start from 0 the worst up to 10 the best ranking.
Well there you go, it is higher than 10 though it just doesn't display on the toolbar

What google page rank a website should have to be considered as doing all right.
Forget about PR, get links for traffic, and build your site as well as you can. PR will follow.

I'm sure the google experts will be along soon but lets begin.

PageRank is so called because of it's inventor Larry Page. It has nothing to do with the ranking of page.

PageRank is a complex set of calculations made during the indexing process and is a measure of the number and quality of internal an inbound links to your site: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pagerank

PageRank is just one of over 200 signals Google uses to determine you ranking.

Every few months, Google exports it's PageRank results in a very abridged format to the Google toolbar. It's this result you see as the little green bar. It's value is very questionable.

If you are really keen to see a bit of green then you need to do some link building.

I second the idea that Page Rank doesn't matter. My TopShopper index page has a pagerank of 4 but it seems does nothing to drive traffic to my site. On the other hand, we have a site for our apartment in Marbella with a PR of 3 and we get loads of traffic. However, on the Marbella site I spent ages trying to get the site high up in the rankings with keywords like 'apartment' and 'marbella'. However, Google web statistics tell me that most people reach the site through the keywork phrase 'climate in Marbella'. It's mind boggling.:(
