Google ads - worth having on your site?

Hello. I recently decided to create a blogger account to raise back links and advertise my site - I noticed bloggers can have google adwords on their site which got me interested. Obviously only the top visited blogs would make any serious money from this. My question is how much can you make per click?

I will not go into it at the moment as I doubt I get many visitors on my site, but for the future it has potential to earn a bit on the side.

First of all, there is a small mistake - instead of Google Adwords, you should say Google Adsense. They are totally different.

Now ...

You can place other advertisement programs in Bloggers account - there is no rule that you can only use Adsense.

It's true - most visited blogs make lots of money - but doing regular SEO, you can make money from Adsense too ... that's not a problem.

Depending on the niche - pay per click varies, you may get $0.01 to $5/$6 per click. Millions of people earning their living from blogging and internet marketing. If you are serious about that, you can make money too. I blog in my free time - and I'm making about $350 - $400 per month at the moment.

Google is not known for banning people without reason, its always possible with a company that has a user base the size of google that cockups will occur though.

However, they *make* money from clicks, just like the publisher does, so it is not in their interest to ban people without reason.

1. A blog won't create any useful backilinks. Google can tell the difference between an organic link and a self generated link.

2. How is it going to advertise your site? Unless you are posting regularly on topics that people want to read then you ain't gonna get any traffic to the blog which means no traffic to your main site.

It's far easier to double your conversions than it is to double your visitors. Focuss on what makes you money not waht brings you traffic.

There is a school of thought that says google adsense is internet pollution. No one goes online to click ads and I personally think less of a blog or site with ads on especially if they are designed to "trick" the user into clicking (ads designed as a menu bar are a fav..)

Building a blog just to build links is a bit like buying a second TV to improve the picture on your first one.

There are people on this forum who make several £1000's each month from adsense, so it is worth it...depending on your site/niche.

If you have a product it's generally better to try and sell that than it is to worry about adsense.

I make a living from it, so read into that what you will. I know people that make at least 5-10 times more than I do per month. You have to be making a fair whack to become a premium publisher...which I haven't yet made it to.

I occasionally get marketing/advertising/affiliate companies contacting me
saying how much better I could do using their systems instead of AdSense
every now and then I try one out for a few days, but have yet to find
anything that comes close.
The beauty with AdSense is once you've got everything automated, it's

You can make a living from adsence and I know a few people who are and I am kicking myself that I didn't get building it up when they did.

However, if your blog is to refer traffic to your main site then adding other links defeats your point and only works against you for the following reasons;

a) You want to motivate your visitors to go straight through to your site, yet if you place adverts that you get paid only when clicked on, your motivation changes to wanting to take them away from your site.

b) I presume the content on your blog is related to your business, the adverts are targeted to match your content, who is going to match your content on your business, your competitors!

So if you do put adsence on, you will have have spent time and energy on building a blog to promote your competitors!

...I own a lot more sites than I can have in my UKBF sig
Choosing to use adsense isn't something everyone should consider..it really depends on your site. Some make £1000's from adsense others make £1000's from affiliates, whilst others sell their own products and make even more than that.
I don't really have any products to sell (apart from advertising and querky little bits here and there). Affiliate sales are pretty random as I have no focused niche so that leaves me with adsense or some other Pay Per Click program. I could sell banners or something like that and get paid for the amount of impressions.. but it's too much like hard work to organise. Adsense works out of the box. And because of my high rankings in Google I get a LOT of traffic across my sites.

I have reached the stage that I am busy enough with my network of sites that I can afford to send customers OFF some sites yet still make a few pennies when they leave. It's definately not for everyone.

Heh.. I love that reasoning. You build up a site to get traffic to it just to make them leave as soon as possible

It's the adsense way!

I would consider making a living FIRST before you go destroying your site(s). Best way in my opinion is to build a site or two first and get visitors to it. Make some revenue and THEN start building other websites (or pages) that you can monetise with adsense or affiliates.

I used to do a lot of affilliate work 2 or 3 years ago and had high rankings
for a lot of competitive phrases, mainly mobile phones, broadband,
sat-navs, ringtones etc.

Biggest problem, especially with mobiles, was the time involved checking
that links were going to the right pages, other merchants didn't have
better deals, merchants weren't displaying phone numbers, merchants
actually paid etc.

With AdSense all of those problems are eliminated, simply set it up, forget
about it and move on to the next project.

I would say Adsense is just easy money & blogs are the best way to make it especially if you just have a information based blog, selling nothing.

You're getting paid for blogging about something you enjoy! Simple!
